The problem with this ‘let’s weaken our commitment to the ECHR so as to fend off Farage’ plan is that when it doesn’t work, we end up with Farage *and* a weakened commitment to the ECHR at exactly the moment we need the ECHR the most.

Our military deserves better than this empty charade. Yikes. The tank squeaking over silence is incredible.

Even before I heard the devastating, horrific news of political assassination in Minnesota, I woke up this morning thinking about Emily Dickinson's great poem "'Hope' is the thing with feathers -" Lots of people know this beautiful little poem, but fewer, I think(?) realize when it was written. /1

We need more of this kinda straight talking 👇👏.

DALLAS… 😆 💪🏽 www.instagram.com/reel/DKvtTtW...

This is a superb speech by @governor.ca.gov just now. Clear. Strong. Simple. Direct. Angry—in a way that appeals to the best in people, not the worst. Seven plus minutes of the most effective rhetoric in response to Trump. This is how you want a leader to talk. www.youtube.com/watch?v=linJ...

Care Reform Bill’s conclusion “far from its original aspiration” Ahead of today’s Stage 3 debate at Holyrood we’ve published a briefing on the key amendments. Read our news story & briefing: www.ccpscotland.org/ccps-news/so... @r-cackett.bsky.social @thirdforcenews.bsky.social @healthandcare.scot

🧵Spotted in While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand: A woman (60s?) is sitting in a cafe, snuggling a tiny human on her lap. They're reading a story book and she's doing some VERY impressive animal sounds while Tiny Human looks on captivated. Turning each page together. (1)

Super organisation doing great work. Crackin' opportunities for the right people 👇👏😎

Harvard University offering free classes on government and the Constitution to everyone is the coolest thing I’ve heard today.

A wise man quoting a wise man. @judgeluttig.bsky.social is the man for this time. We would be wise to read his words, reflect on our reality, and ready ourselves for action.

🤷🏼‍♂️

vital point lacking, usual: by any intelligent standard, care work is not 'low skilled'

You forgot to mention she resigned in protest in January after you killed her cartoon about your plutocrat owner.

The kids these days.. Yup, they do us proud. Be good to yourself. It is a sort read and it will restore your equilibrium.

And now, a note on Bill Owens who, until this past week, was the executive producer of 60 Minutes. We’ll be back next week with another edition of 60 Minutes.

“He is granting audiences to people who buy his meme coin. When the sitting president of the United States is selling access for what are effectively payments directly to him. There is no question that that rises to the level of an impeachable offense.” Sen. Jon Ossoff

One of the most shocking things I have read for a while: t.co/lg46ijHLDF

Can't claim to have done a detailed search but don't believe I've seen any appreciation on here of this pinpoint takedown (especially the last part) by Andrew Rawnsley (in Sunday's Observer) of the Reform 'threat'. A week out from the local elections, it should be shared far & wide.

The Larry David article once more: t.co/wN66jpnTQo

My Philadelphia Inquirer friend and colleague Helen Ubiñas just came back from Italy and the International Journalism Festival, where America's decline into fascism was Topic A. All Americans, and not just journalist, should hear what she heard

Quite the escalation..

JUST IN: Deputy Assistant to the President and "Counterterrorism Czar" Sebastian Gorka says anyone advocating for due process for Kilmar Abrego Garcia could be viewed as "aiding and abetting a terrorist" and be federally charged. (h/t Philip Germain)

For the first time in Army history, a woman service member, First Lt. Gabrielle White, has completed the grueling Best Ranger Competition. The annual three-day, 30-event marathon includes helicopter missions, land navigation, weapon qualification and various physical tests.

When parliament used the terms “man” and “woman” in the Equality Act 2010, it was referring to biological sex, not acquired gender. That’s just about all the UK Supreme Court decided yesterday. But the impact of its decision is likely to be much wider. rozenberg.substack.com/p/a-busy-day

This is everything you need to know right here… Not only is the Trump administration not asking for Kilmar Abrego García’s return—they’re paying El Salvador to keep him locked up at CECOT, one of the most notorious in the country. Bottom line: Trump WANTS to keep him there. CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS‼️

Taps the clip… youtu.be/PDBiLT3LASk?...

Constituents to Chuck Grassley: "Are you bringing back that guy from El Salvador?" Senior Citizen: “If I get an order to pay a ticket to pay $1200 and I just say ‘no’, does that stand up? Because he just got an order from the Supreme Court and he just said ‘screw it’” “I’M PISSED!”

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.

As we enter the holiest of holy weeks, I feel compelled to share my favorite cartoon again this year.

“BRING HIM HOME” 🔥

This part

BREAKING: the heroes at Susman Godfrey sue the Trump administration over the illegal retaliation against them They have more integrity in their pinky finger than these other firms that have been capitulating have in their entire partnerships And kudos to the team at Munger for representing them

"It was a great festival of vacuity. It proved nothing except for what happens to people who fight for liberal values in an era of populism." This is what you need to read today 👇. Just brilliant stuff👏

This is an outstanding and important piece on a legal-political struggle at the heart of the uK polity. A must-read.

Ambassador Spock modeling the proper “fuck you, make me” response to intimidation tactics. Our current-day institutions could learn a lot from him.

"Trump has an obvious weakness that makes America weak. He places the American economy at risk for the sake of a personal foible, a visible vulnerability." snyder.substack.com/p/trumps-psy...

Very interesting.

Barbara Smaller cartoon reminding me of how Adam Smith went back to his mum’s so she could cook and do laundry for him while he wrote ‘The Wealth Of Nations’. The Invisible Hand of Economics is women.
