Little Reichstag Fires Everywhere

I’m honestly pretty fucking distraught seeing these images. I’ve spent a lot of time in the Central Valley getting to know and talking to farmworkers and the people who support them over the last couple years and these images have me absolutely beside myself To be hunted like dogs is…fuck

Just had the millennial urge to check into the airport on Foursquare

A U.S. citizen who is nine months pregnant was hospitalized upon her release from immigration custody after she was detained by federal agents in Hawthorne on Sunday. www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/i...

We’ve leapt over a lot of red lines in the last week. But one I find most worrying is Trump/MAGA/ICE have ceased even pretending to claim some criminal pretext for cracking down on protected speech. It’s just straight up “if you criticize us, you’re getting throttled/arrested/disappeared.”

Everyone saw Grand Park's hot pink benches being stacked into a barricade on Sunday. What an exceptional statement from RIOS, the benches' designers instagram.com/rios.imagines "These pieces were designed to move, adapt, welcome, connect — and now protect"

Police in LA have been attacking protesters and press for the last 5 days straight. More people have been injured at these protests than any other I’ve seen. The brutality isn’t just likely against agency policy, it’s also potentially lethal. capitalandmain.com/police-viole...

Tear gas can cause long-term health consequences by making people more susceptible to contracting respiratory illnesses, including COVID. The chemical agent can also hurt people inside their homes if it seeps into residential neighborhoods. What you need to know (published 2020):

DTLA Curfew TONIGHT: 8p-6a Karen Bass and Jim McDonnell vowing to arrest people who violate the curfew, minus residents, the unhoused and credentialed media.

Oh this is cool, SELAH does great work

That app over there is twitter, that's where you go if you want to see some guys to get mad at. And this app is bluesky, it's where you go if you want to see people getting mad at screenshots from twitter. Instagram isn't great, because all the twitter screenshots over there have the @s cropped out

Families of people who were detained by ICE in immigration raids say they haven't been able to make contact with their loved ones or even find out where many of them are being held.

I remember I used to get mad at people who clicked repost too much on here and for my recent behavior I apologize. Early twitter trauma response I guess

It is very difficult to believe that Los Angeles’ political leadership—or California’s governor or other state officials—truly wish for ICE raids to end when they are willing to arrest the only people who are actually standing in ICE’s way. https://trib.al/Ru3UuOW

why did something happen

Me normally: the traffic here sucks I can’t afford anything bigger than a closet to live in and every public official is more crooked than a bag of snakes Me after a chud calls this place a hellhole or claims In-N-Out is mid: I WILL DIE FOR MY COUNTRY OF LOS ANGELES

in my city which is apparently in a state of extended military occupation due to extreme and widespread unrest a really kind sanitation worker saw me sitting out front with my kids and gave them free toy trash cans and we talked about recycling

New from 404 Media: DHS flew Predator drones over the LA anti-ICE protests. As well as flight data this is further corroborated with air traffic control audio. The audio mentions "TROY" (callsign used by DHS) and "Q-9" (shorthand for MQ-9, the Predator B drones) www.404media.co/dhs-flew-pre...

These were SO good I ordered so many from the Oreo DTC website lol

every time this happens, press institutions and lawyers are (rightly!) horrified about how journalists are treated. every time, they (we) seek special protections for the press to shield it from the worst abuses. this strategy doesn’t work. 1/

If you're looking to background any LA sheriff's deputies this week to see if they have a history of bad behavior, here is a searchable collection I made of all the disciplinary and use of force (SB 1421/ SB16) records LASD has released so far: journaliststudio.google.com/pinpoint/sea...

Huntington Beach PD claims their mounted unit was not involved in protest suppression in L.A. over the weekend BUT acknowledges its officers were present "to observe, learn, and gather information on tactics and response strategies" www.facebook.com/HBPoliceDept...

“This is a chilling statement. Even if it were a joke, it was clearly designed to make the public afraid to exercise its First Amendment rights to protest and to hold government officials, including LAPD officers, accountable for their actions.”

State troops sent to Los Angeles by the Trump administration, without the approval of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, were expected to sleep on floors or outdoors, a source told the Chronicle.

"They’re not arresting motorcycle gang members. They’re not arresting international drug dealers. They’re arresting grandpas. They’re just arresting people that are very humble and looking for an opportunity, just trying to get a decent living.” www.latimes.com/business/sto...

New from 404 Media: here's our report on the aircraft circling above the LA protests. Local, state, DHS, military all flew. Left: aircraft from air base. Right: a distinctive high altitude/hexagonal flight pattern, looks like a Predator drone (it flew to border after) www.404media.co/dhs-black-ha...

Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. To understand Los Angeles today, we must remember LA Times reporter Ruben Salazar. In 1970, LASD shot and killed Salazar with a tear gas canister while he was covering protests. So-called "less lethal" munition. Salazar was on break inside a bar.

Something I remember having pointed out to me a few years back which in hindsight should be obvious is how easy under capitalism it is to frame damage of private property as ‘violence’ when it simply isn’t.

I have a compromise we'll all hate. That's right: it's time to carry the Los Angeles flag at the protest.

Loved this film, and this piece

The concern trolling about people waving the Mexican flag here is obvious bullshit but it’s worth pointing out that this same jingoistic opinion is never extended to people waiving the Israeli, Irish, or Italian flags during actions or holidays
