Arteta says Nwaneri is "hopefully not" injured and thinks it was just fatigue. #AFC

Arsenal are not going to blow teams apart with their attacking firepower in the next few weeks. They simply don’t have the players for it. They therefore need to be defensively immaculate at all times — and they weren’t here. Impressively disciplined performance by West Ham.

This won't be the main takeaway from the match but David Raya has just burned up James Ward-Prowse in a 30-yard sprint and beaten him with a flick.

Ethan Nwaneri appears to be limping as he leaves the pitch. He's walking very gingerly and was holding his leg a moment ago.

Arteta has always been reluctant to play Zinchenko in midfield but he's giving him more than 30 minutes there today. Arsenal need someone to unpick this deep block... maybe he's the man to do it.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been superb in this first half. Winning tackles, driving forward and even flipping the ball over Calafiori's head. Great assist for Jarrod Bowen. 0-1.

No real runners in behind for Arsenal today. Raya wanted to play a quick ball over the top just then but there were no options. It is simply the reality of Arsenal's current situation that they don't have as much pace or variety as usual.

Teams at the Emirates. Merino starts for Arsenal… #AFC Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Nwaneri, Merino, Trossard #WHUFC Areola; Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Kilman, Cresswell; Scarles, Alvarez, Ward-Prowse, Soucek; Bowen, Kudus

Mikel Arteta has said Ethan Nwaneri is developing “much faster” than expected. The #AFC manager wants to give Nwaneri freedom: “Get him very, very far from thinking mode, let him express himself. “I think what is surprising is probably the confidence and his decision making.”

Arsenal posted record revenues of £617m in the 2023/24 season — but still made a loss of £18m. The club's wage bill increased from £235m to £328m. #AFC accounts also show a net spend of £21m on transfers in the summer of 2024, compared to £156m in the summer of 2023.

Is there a title race? Reasons for optimism for Arsenal: they have a better fixture list than Liverpool, and Saka will be back soon (he's still the league's leading big chance creator). Then again, Liverpool have all the firepower. Analysis here: www.telegraph.co.uk/football/202...

Chido Obi made his senior debut yesterday. The sight of him in United kit will hurt Arsenal's executives. The Ayden Heaven story is a little different, though, and that's also true of Walters, Sousa, Cozier-Duberry etc. Piece on #AFC academy departures: www.telegraph.co.uk/football/202...

Arteta said today that William Saliba responded to Kai Havertz’s injury by offering to play up front. Apparently Saliba used to bag loads of goals as a striker in his youth days. Arteta: “Willy is so funny.”

The most striking aspect of that Chelsea drubbing (apart the Mitoma wondergoal) was how lightweight they looked. It felt like Brighton were stronger, faster and smarter all over the pitch. Reminder: Chelsea have paid £225m in recent years to poach Brighton's players and staff.

In December, the Chelsea fans were singing: "We've got our Chelsea back." Now, they are singing: "We want our Chelsea back."

Brighton fans to Chelsea: "Can we play you every week?"

Kaoru Mitoma with the best piece of control I've seen this season. On a full sprint, with the long ball dropping over his shoulder. And then he finds the corner from the edge of the box. Outstanding goal.

At Brighton, where Christopher Nkunku is making only the sixth Premier League start of his Chelsea career. He joined in June 2023 (for £52 million). #CFC badly need him to start delivering.

Arteta confirms that Bukayo Saka has not suffered any setbacks in his recovery from his hamstring injury.

It was not unreasonable to expect Kai Havertz to remain fit in the second half of this season, given his injury record. But it was still a huge gamble, and it has already backfired badly on Arsenal. #AFC rolled the dice and now they must pay the price. www.telegraph.co.uk/football/202...

Dead bodies are decomposing on the streets of Goma. The UN has described “immense human suffering” and a death toll nearing 3,000, following a Rwanda-backed offensive. Arsenal’s sponsorship deal with Visit Rwanda has become impossible to justify. www.telegraph.co.uk/football/202...

Very impressive performance by Brighton and a fully deserved victory. Rutter was sensational. Quite incredible that Chelsea — of all the clubs in world football — suddenly find themselves looking so short of options and depth.

Georginio Rutter has been the best player on the pitch tonight. Lovely header, some great runs and turns, and now an assist for Kaoru Mitoma. #BHAFC

That was such a howler by Verbruggen that Palmer actually looked a little embarrassed to have scored it.

Teams at Brighton. #BHAFC Verbruggen; Veltman, Van Hecke, Dunk, Lamptey; Hinshelwood, Baleba; Minteh, Rutter, Mitoma; Welbeck #CFC Sanchez; Gusto, Tosin, Chalobah, Cucurella; Caicedo, Dewsbury-Hall; Neto, Palmer, Sancho; Nkunku

Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly are not just team-mates. They have been best friends since they were six. This is the story of that remarkable friendship. The first day at the Emirates, the extra sessions, the homework, the talent & a shared journey www.telegraph.co.uk/football/202...

Kai Havertz has made at least 45 club appearances in each of the last five seasons. Arsenal will need him to be as resilient as ever in the coming months. Here’s what Mikel Arteta said about the German’s robustness:

Arteta on the transfer window: “We had a clear intention… we have not achieved it. We are disappointed in that sense. But we are very aware that we only want to bring certain kinds of players. We have to be very disciplined with that and we were.” #AFC

Arsenal end the window with a weaker attack than when it opened. There are numerous understandable reasons for their inability to sign a forward, but it’s a long way from being ideal. Huge pressure on Kai Havertz to keep scoring — and to stay fit. #AFC www.telegraph.co.uk/football/202...

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 18 league matches against the so-called 'big six'. The old inferiority complex has gone. Whether you like Lewis-Skelly and Gabriel's celebrations or not, they embody a brashness that #AFC were missing for a long time. www.telegraph.co.uk/football/202...

The bigger the game, the better Declan Rice seems to play. Absolutely monstrous in matches like these.

The Arsenal fans have repurposed their famous "49, 49, undefeated" song in "49, 49, Lewis-Skelly".

Lewis-Skelly with Haaland's celebration, a few months after Haaland asked him “who the f--- are you?” at the Etihad.

105 seconds between Haaland's header and Partey's goal.

Huge contrast between the two strikers. Havertz has had 15 touches and completed 10 passes. Haaland has had six touches and completed one pass. Havertz has created one goal, but missed a chance that Haaland surely scores. Different horses for different courses.

Two goals in three appearances for Martin Odegaard, who had previously not scored in open play this season. Arsenal need their midfielders, and Odegaard especially, to contribute with goals. If that starts flowing, they could be in serious business.

Teams at the Emirates. #AFC Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Martinelli, Havertz, Trossard #MCFC Ortega; Nunes, Stones, Akanji, Gvardiol; Kovacic, Bernardo; Savinho, Marmoush, Foden; Haaland

Mikel Merino on Ethan Nwaneri: “This kind of goal does not happen by chance. This kind of action is something you train. He is always trying to make this shot, trying to cross to the second post. I think he is going to be an amazing player in the future.” #AFC

Arsenal end the first phase of the Champions League with six wins from eight matches and only three goals conceded (and only one conceded from open play). Third place in the table. Tonight wasn't as slick as usual with the changes but Ethan Nwaneri shone once again. #AFC

Could you make the argument that Ethan Nwaneri is the best long-range shooter in the Arsenal squad? Still a small body of evidence but he's scored two screamers this season and looks so dangerous in that 20-25 yard range. More so than any other player?

Ethan Nwaneri's at it again. His sixth goal of the season and it's another gorgeous, curling effort from the edge of the penalty area. The 17-year-old is lethal from that distance. #AFC

Neto loked anxious when he stumbled on the ball with his first touch, and that was a strange decision to come so far out of his area. He put himself in no man's land. Easy finish for Danjuma.

Quite a few members of the Girona home support were applauding Ethan Nwaneri after a lovely piece of skill in midfield. Safe to say that wouldn't happen in England.

Estadi Montilivi. Girona v Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta has said David Raya is "not fit" to play against Girona. Raya was on the team flight to Spain yesterday.

In Girona for the game tonight. Here’s Arsenal’s starting lineup: #AFC Neto; Partey, Kiwior, Gabriel, Calafiori; Odegaard, Jorginho, Merino; Nwaneri, Trossard, Sterling

Arsenal have submitted an appeal to have Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card overturned

Postecoglou on Solanke's injury: "We are looking at around six weeks for him. No surgery." #THFC

Spurs: didn't get any new injuries (that we could see) and did get a result. Given the current state of affairs at #THFC, that feels like progress. 14 first-team players unavailable tonight. The second-half performance was far from composed, though. Small steps forward...
