My top Super Bowl memory is when Musk tweeted “Go Eagles” in 2023 from the game and then deleted it after a similar tweet from Biden got more engagement. Then he flew to Twitter HQ and demanded his workers find out why his posts were doing poorly, starting a multi-day fact finding mission.

Vital point that also applies to science communication. If I talk about linguistics on TikTok, I risk being a little wrong every day, and then being attacked by colleagues as unprofessional/unscientific. But the alternative is to leave all discussion to random influencers rather than experts.

I would not be a professor if not for NSF funding I received from undergrad through dissertation. They're trying to starve us out of existence. Vance called professors "the enemy". It's also wasteful and cruel. They're playing not just with the future of science, but also with thousands of jobs.
