But why does everyone listen to Stephen Miller? That's what I can't figure out. Why?

Been a while since I've seen a local news organization fully retract a story, but it seems like WCSH did screw up here. Maybe having all journalists in Maine be under the age of 30 with no experience whatsoever is bad, actually? www.portlandschools.org/calendars/ne...

"…using copyright-protected material to create a product that is capable of producing an infinite number of competing products…dramatically changing, you might even say obliterating, the market for that person's work, and you're saying that you don't even have to pay a license to that person." #UBI

People are making fun of Zuck and his 12 AI friends, and rightly so, but there really is a crisis of loneliness in the United States, and there really are people who don't have any friends, and if we don't create more third spaces and foster community people really will look to AI for companionship.

"Conservative lawyer" - this ridiculous branding of all people as either conservative or liberal is poison.

Someone wrote "crypto super app" in a non-ironic way and thought it would convey actual meaning. Oh, a crypto super app? Sure, I know that that is.

Hero.

Let's go. This is the blueprint: "No, I won't do that. It's against the law and you can't make me."

Very Maine story. Very Maine.

May Day is an excellent day to remember that the reason all the tech billionaires are salivating about AI is because they think it will allow them to create capital without the need for human labor. That's their magic end goal. They want everyone to be a lonely, solitary, perfect consumer.

Susan Collins hasn't given me an interview I've requested since February. She has spoken with other outlets though. Angus (only got 10 minutes with him yesterday versus 40+ minutes he gave podcasters), Chellie and Jared have all jumped on the phone with me in recent weeks. shorturl.at/WqTYj

Happy May Day, don’t be a scab.

Nearly 650 Maine lawyers and 100 law firms took out a full page ad in the @pressherald.com today decrying the intimidation of lawyers & clients "whose interests do not align with those of the government."

"We taxpayers have paid for the slaughter and, for the most part, remained shamefully silent. The U.S. is Israel's partner in genocide."

The clip from ABC about the photoshopping of the hand tattoos is an incredible distillation of the surreal, post-truth, post-shame era we live in. Does Trump believe what he's saying? Does the reporter believe Trump believes it? Do people watching believe Trump? What do they see in that photo?

What an absolute clown. These people are so fucking high on hopium they can't see how incredibly they're being swindled. It would be funny if it weren't the people's money they were handing over to Henry Gondoff and Johnny fucking Hooker.

Oh, look at EP 91. Nothing but BIG NAMES this week. No weird lobster sex. Though there is a Whyte Python... open.spotify.com/episode/7Lnb...

It's crazy that being "conservative" and loving the Constitution means empowering law enforcement to do whatever they want at any time. Freedom! www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

It's too much. It's just too much.

The Newburyport Literary Festival is worth traveling for (put it in your calendar for fourth weekend in April), but also something we should model somewhere in Maine. Maine Lit Fest is cool, but so spread out...

I've got a few Sasquatch encounters in the new book, too! Purchase links in bio if you're interested (Print copies available soon!! Folks who pre-ordered will get their copies first - with some extra goodies!!) slevikstore.company.site/Humanoid-Enc...

Join us in welcoming @aaronjohncurtis.bsky.social to present OLD SCHOOL INDIAN with @morgantalty.bsky.social ! They will be here at Print on Wednesday, May 7 at 7pm! "A coming-of-middle-age novel about an Ahkwesáhsne man’s reluctant return home and what it takes to heal."

Incredible what a bankrupt cesspool Facebook has been allowed to become. I'll never understand it. News story about a horrific crash a couple miles from my house, and the comments are just polluted with this awful garbage.

I love that all she has to do is say, "I'm sorry I posted an identifying photo of a high schooler for my own political gain," and this can all be over, but she'd rather spend, what, $20k on legal fees or so. Who's paying for this shit? And why?

Oh hey, I’m moderating this event! It’s going to be great - and it’s virtual, so anyone can log on. Use the link to register!

What's the argument against this bill?

Oh, shit, a new online shopping tool?!?

Wow. Even 57% of Republicans don't want Collins re-elected? That's a big number.

So, we'll see ya on Saturday, yeah? And remember: Friends don't let friends buy stuff from Am@zon.

I thought this was an interesting comment in the BDN's piece about the property tax compromise. Are there actually states that have solved this problem? Or addressed it meaningfully while maintaining services? Which ones? www.bangordailynews.com/2025/04/24/p...

I know many kids who have taken advantage of free community college; they are 100% kids who would not have taken classes otherwise. I think there's a chance we look back at the free community college as Mills' greatest achievement. It would be madness to go back, given the cost.

Actions that make you think, "How could you ever treat another human being that way?" are just how our current rulers go about their lives. They're not curious about who people are, they don't worry about their safety, they don't instinctively want to help. It's powerfully sad.

Katie Porter's chief of staff. Now lives in Bristol, apparently. At least he made sure to wear an LL Bean vest and not a Patagonia one...

If it turns out that "religious" parents can opt their kids out of LGBTQ-flavored books, can non-religious people opt their kids out of anything that pretends the Bible is anything more than an elaborate fairy tale?
