Virginia has a difficult signature requirement for statewide office 10K total including 400 from each Congressional district And all have to be valid registered voters Best practice is to get well over amount needed Biggest obstacle to potential GOP primary open.substack.com/pub/samshira...

It appears that former State Senator Amanda Chase is running for Governor She’s attempting to get the required 10,000 signatures to get on the GOP Primary ballot This is after former Delegate Dave LaRock started gathering signatures to make the ballot myemail.constantcontact.com/Running-for-...

For those who don’t understand the power of Spanberger, note that in this story she’s quoted as speaking to business owners like they’re constituents while she has no job at all. Her campaign is happening right now, she’s just talking to people.

The Federal government changes are a drip, drip, drip type thing In a place like Virginia, it’s often the top story on local news Not just those directly impacted who feel it could affect them Part of reason could come to dominate this year’s election www.semafor.com/article/02/2...

Could this end up being the worst of all possible worlds politically for Winsome Earle-Sears? 1. Trump VERY unpopular in VA 2. Lack of enthusiasm for Sears among GOP voters due to her past sharp criticism of Trump & the Trump camp's antipathy towards her? bluevirginia.us/2025/02/new-...

Lots of undecideds in new Roanoke College poll of Virginia Spanberger 39% Sears 24% But Trump is at 59% disapproval vs. 37% approval in Virginia Many voters not tuned into Governor’s race yet But those rough numbers for GOP to run with an incumbent President www.roanoke.edu/news/rc_poll...

Interesting statement from GOP Virginia Delegate up for re-election this year in Tossup district Delegate Taylor won by 53 votes in 2023 after a recount Will be interesting to see how different Republicans navigate job losses in Virginia

On related note Virginia state elections can become defined by national issues Winning party makes election into referendum 2021 referendum on COVID policies 2023 referendum on abortion 2025 could become referendum on DOGE Depends how big an issue it continues to be

Periodic reminder the party that won VA-2 has been in the House majority in every election since 2008 Redistricting gave it a redder hue compared to the previous version But it’s type of seat where blowback to cutting Federal workers may overcome that if it continues into 2026

1 thing on Dems side Time Longer Trump’s in office, more voters will start blaming him for things Also voters may feel like GOP more focused on ideological project as opposed to their wallets But cold comfort for Dems as they have to deal with total GOP control newrepublic.com/article/1918...

Very sad news of the shooting deaths of two officers in Virginia Beach last night My thoughts are with the families of the fallen and Virginia Beach community during this difficult time

Former Delegate Dave LaRock seems serious about seeking Virginia GOP nomination He has until April 3 to gather at least 10K valid signatures Not an easy feat although enough time still left If he makes it, would likely make primary a loyalty contest about backing Trump wtop.com/virginia/202...

Very unexpected retirement of a GOP Delegate who was first elected in 2023 Del. Baxter Ennis represents a Hampton Roads seat that Harris won by 3% District has parts of Chesapeake and Suffolk One of the top pickup opportunities for Dems this year in Virginia House of Delegates

Still possibility of GOP primary for Virginia Governor after all Former Del. Dave LaRock is considering throwing his hat in the ring But would need 10K valid signatures to get on primary ballot And it would be a primary and not a convention Same for all HoD seats if needed

Veteran GOP Delegate Danny Marshall from Southside Virginia is retiring The Danville based HD-49 voted for Trump by 8.5% Not many retirements ahead of this year’s House of Delegates elections But could change as General Assembly session comes to close www.chathamstartribune.com/news/article...

“You're not actually seeing that much of a difference — or a delta — in what we've seen before. This is typical for a spring market” I know it’s shocking that random posts from shady accounts online are not always accurate www.wusa9.com/article/news...

Elections are often won and lost on what issues define them Dems are going to try and make the 2025 Virginia elections a referendum on the Federal fallout Virginia GOP has so far not shied away from the fight Wrote up some thoughts on the election ahead samshirazi.substack.com/p/federal-fa...

This was posted by a local realtor in an Arlington group As a side note, it’s weird to see people hoping part of their country will have an economic collapse Especially when there are parts of the country that actually need economic help And not much is done to help them

One of biggest challenges in politics is not running last successful election Dems lost in Virginia in 2021 by focusing too much on Trump 2022 was better bc overturning of Roe created new issue But 2024 focused too much on 2022 playbook GOP could have similar issue in 2025

He’s right in the sense Dems just lost an election Similar after 2016, 2004, etc. At same time, not being in power tends to help a party’s brand Not to say some changes aren’t necessary But important for both sides to realize it won’t be 2024 forever www.politico.eu/article/us-s...

I also see there is a viral thing about home sales in NOVA Pretty sure it lacks context and pushing a narrative Personally have not seen much change Housing is still super expensive and in-demand If only the problem was too much housing in NOVA! Very much opposite
