Someone on Threads noticed you can type any random sentence into Google, then add “meaning” afterwards, and you’ll get an AI explanation of a famous idiom or phrase you just made up. Here is mine

Just realised the word 'enjoy' is like... to make joyful. To joyify. Enjoyment = Joyification.

Hard not to feel good about this.

A lot of my infra workflows live in Slack threads, docs, or buried in shell history. That sucked. I've been building Atuin Desktop. Local-first, CRDT-powered, executable runbooks - with integrated terminals, sql queries + monitoring blog.atuin.sh/atuin-deskto... Lmk if you have any questions <3

Tempted, y'know.

I miss mentoring. For the last 5 years or so I’ve mentored folks primarily through email, and over long periods of time. Average mentee stuck with me for a couple of years.

Dog petting upgrade.

It’s very hard for us to reliably get our kids to do anything. Youngest doesn’t understand words yet, eldest has PDA. But if I turn the kettle on, I know that no matter what time it is, where he is in the house, or what he is doing, my eldest will rush to the kitchen, watch it boil, then run off.

There are so many cool algorithms out there that no one knows about because the only writing about them is in thick, dry academic texts. Just did a feedback session with @mcognetta.bsky.social on my next essay but at the end he spent like 45 minutes telling me about cool niche algorithms.

Add ?kawaii=true and your Bluesky logo changes to this. I found this when I was looking for interesting comments in the source. ... and right before posting this I realized this is old news but I'm gonna post it anyway: bsky.app/profile/bsky...

Anyone else in tech a beginner level chess player (600-800 ELO) and wanting to get better through correspondence games with another chess noob? Kinda wanna find someone to play with on a regular (but mostly async) basis and get better at the same time.

4,156 lines of code, ~2000 words, 8 unique visual components, 1 library dependency. First complete draft of my next essay is done. I'm looking for reviewers. Plan would be to do this over a video call. You read the post, I take notes. If you're interested, DM me. 🙏 Topic is reservoir sampling.

Megathread of pro-trans petitions on Parliament’s petition website. If Labour suddenly gets hit with debates for a bunch of pro-trans petitions, maybe they’ll realise this issue isn’t going away and they’ve fucked up. I’ll add more as I find them. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/70...

Preach. Very proud that my next post has no dependencies. Worked hard and learned a lot to get to this point, and it has given me a new awe and appreciation for the web. You can do a lot with just HTML, CSS, and JS.
