Day 78: A Pumpkin Beetle. So named because pumpkins and other members of the gourd family of plants are its preferred food. Which is odd as we don't have any of those growing anywhere nearby. It likely just came here to check, then flew off again. Cool little guy. #bugoftheday #insects #beetles

Day 6: Favourite TV Theme. This is difficult. There were so many great themes growing up that I think I'll just make a thread of some of the best. First off: Ship to Shore. Aussie kid show themes really went hard in the 90s. #musicsky youtu.be/q6tZpuQPfko?...

Me when I realised that I can use Google Images to help me identify the bugs in my photos.

Day 77: The Red Dung Beetle. This is another exotic species that was introduced into Australia, this time from Europe. I love their cute little antennae, which are just about visible if you zoom in around their heads. #bugoftheday #insects #beetles

Drop something black

Day 5: a song that reminds me of my childhood. Anyone above a certain age remembers the Y2K hysteria that surrounded the turn of the millennium. Even though I was only 7 at the time, this song still takes me back to those crazy days. #musicsky youtu.be/ShiShrR_nh8?...

Some of my comfort movies. (Honourable mentions: LOTR and Finding Nemo)

Day 76: This is a species of scarab beetle called a grey-furrowed rose chafer. One more from my list of insects that I've only ever found the one time. You never know what's around until you look. Then look again because you probably missed something the first time. #bugoftheday #insects #beetles

Day 4: A song found through other media. For me, the soundtrack is easily the best part of GTA Vice City. It's a wonderland of 80s hit music. This song is on there and is what first got me into INXS back in the day. Hearing it still reminds me of the game. #musicsky youtu.be/4Q8L0-36hTM?...

Day 75: When I took this pic a few years ago, I thought it was a beetle (it's not). I am almost certain that it is in fact a Hibiscus Harlequin Bug. Though I often use 'bug' as a general term, the word technically refers to the order Hemiptera (cicadas, aphids, etc.). #bugoftheday #insects

Day 3: A song outside my favourite genre. Of the wide variety of music I listen to, my least listened genre is probably hip hop. That's why I've chosen Sleezy Steezy Cool by 3% & Tia Gostelow. Absolutely one of my favourite songs from last year. Great video too. #musicsky youtu.be/Ko3Pu4a86gg?...

A movie you've watched more than 6 times

Day 74: Another lab photo from my uni days. This is a type of Mayfly nymph amusingly called a Stream Horse, which relates to their rocking motion as they move along the stream bed. The spiky growths you can see on its back are its gills. #bugoftheday #insects

Post a gif you can hear

Drop something blue 💙

Day 2: A song title with a name in it. I'm going retro with Errol by Australian Crawl. This is a fun song named after Errol Flynn, a boy from Tasmania who moved to Hollywood in the 1930s and went on to star as both Robin Hood and Captain Blood. #musicsky youtu.be/rpxgn01rwjE?...

Drop Something Green

Day 73: A Barred Skipper I managed to snap a pic of today just before the battery in my camera went flat. Skippers once had their own subgroup within the order Lepidoptera separate to butterflies and moths, but have since been placed under the butterfly taxonomic group. #bugoftheday #insects

Quote this with your favourite Yu-Gi-Oh card!

Day 1: Most Listened. It has to be Jabberwocky by my favourite band, RedHook. Mostly because it's my ringtone, but also because it's my favourite song from their first full album, 'Postcards From A Living Hell'. #musicsky youtu.be/Agw8FpphvWo?...

Last month I did a video game version of this, so I thought I'd change it up and do a music one. Since most of my mutuals and followers are from Europe or North America, I've also decided to use this to showcase some of my favourite Australian music and artists. #musicsky

Day 72: A cool little Tiger Moth (Genus Utetheisa) with a beautiful mosaic pattern on its wings. A good reminder that moths aren't always drab and grey or brown. #bugoftheday #insects #moths

Day 71: A selection of Green Blowflies. I love the way their metallic blue-green exoskeleton shines. Unfortunately, their life cycle isn't so beautiful, with maggots feeding largely on dead animal tissue. Sometimes, they also infect living sheep, which isn't pretty. Trust me. #bugoftheday #insects

What's your sign?

You’ve been murdered, who do you want on the case? Specifically David Suchet's version of Poirot.

Day 70: My last year of uni was an Honours project focusing on aquatic bugs. This included about 4 months of lab work, during which I took a lot of photos through the microscope. Here's one of the coolest things I found: a Microcaddis larva, within its protective silken case. #bugoftheday #insects

What frame from a movie would you hang on your wall? #Movies #MovieSky #FilmSky

Day 69 just happens to fall on Valentine's Day. Coincidence? Yes. Let's move on. In the spirit of the day, here are a pair of Red Harlequin Bugs mating. While mating, these bugs will walk around connected like this, before separating once they're done. #bugoftheday #insects
