Extraordinary story the Wall Street Journal. X is threatening advertisers that if they don’t spend more, Elon Musk will use his influence in government to block company mergers. That’s extortion.

Target's shareholders lost $15 billion of net worth in their holdings of Target common stock when Target announced they were dropping DEI initiatives.

DOGE is firing people from a non-governmental Microsoft email address at the already understaffed FAA a few weeks after the first major commercial plane crash in 16 years. But Hillary couldn't be president because of her private email server.

⚠️ PSA: Abortion bans endanger the lives of ALL PREGNANT PEOPLE! This extremely useful guide from @propublica.org is designed to educate pregnant people on how to access life-saving care, should they ever encounter a dangerous complication. Read and share!

This is fascism.

READ Danielle Sassoon's letter to AG Pam Bondi, via @nytimes.com: "Rather than be rewarded, Adams's advocacy should be called out for what it is: an improper offer of immigration enforcement assistance in exchange for a dismissal of his case." static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics...

Reporters: If the constitution says the president doesn’t have the power to change laws, budgets, or agencies by EO then it’s not “unclear” if Trump can do what he’s saying he’s going to. It’s clear that he’s trying to violate the law.

Here's what the decision by America's favorite sports league tells us about "anticipatory obedience."

WATCH: While Republican proposals include further tax breaks for the ultrawealthy and corporations, other proposals would eliminate tax breaks for families with children, like the current tax credit for up to $2,100 in child care expenses. 📽️ @josesepulveda.bsky.social

Exclusive: President Trump's nominee as Air Force Secretary, currently a top official at the national spy satellite agency, arranged a multibillion-dollar contract solicitation in a way that favored Elon Musk's SpaceX, according to seven people familiar with the contract reut.rs/4b7MUKt

He's not a "kid." He's an adult, with an important govt job. The posts weren't "stupid." They were hatefully racist. His life isn't "ruined." He lost a job. Holding a govt employee accountable is not a "reward" for a journalist. The reporter doesn't get a cookie.

The moment we say it's ok to violate the law to shut down one agency – we say it's ok to violate the law to shut down anything.

True.

New: A 2nd DOGE staffer has amplified extremists online, including Nick Fuentes and Andrew Tate www.reuters.com/world/us/sta...

I mean it’s just the agency tasked with nuclear security, how bad can it be?

NEW: President Trump's hiring freeze has stopped the onboarding of seasonal federal firefighters, including those who work for agencies called on to help battle the devastating L.A. fires, creating a potential shortfall ahead of the next fire season. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

Dang: "WIRED reporting shows, however, that at the time these statements were made, a DOGE operative did in fact have write access...at least one note was added to Treasury records indicating that he no longer had write access before senior IT staff stated it was actually rescinded."

This is my surprised face www.wsj.com/tech/doge-st...

Reporters: Trump saying the US will take over Gaza is not a “plan” or a a “proposal”. That’s why he hadn’t discussed it with anyone prior to saying it, and no one knows how it could possibly work. He just makes stuff up as he goes. Stop reporting on him as if he operates like a reasonable leader.

MORE BARGING

Chicagoans, you know what to do.

Oh look, NOAA websites are mysteriously going offline now that Musk’s crew is in charge. Guess running a government is just as hard as keeping Twitter from crashing every other week. Who could’ve seen this coming?

When the feds arrived, a 26-yr-old started recording. They were searching for a relative. But instead arrested his dad who was just arriving from buying tamales. "I can't breathe. I got asthma. Call a lawyer," he heard his dad say chicago.suntimes.com/immigration/... w/ @adrianacardmag.bsky.social

His administration is literally composed of men who beat and batter women.

Senator Raphael Warnock goes off on Republicans for being "silent while this new administration breaks the law." "I don't work for some oligarch threatening to run for my seat or run somebody for my seat. I work for the people of Georgia." 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

We're fighting against the oligarchy in Chicago.

A few scenes from today's rally and march in the Chicago Loop against the Trump/Musk coup

this is sean parnell, new spokesman for the pentagon under donald trump. he will be the face of the entire military, representing the men and women of the us armed forces. this is the republican party in 2025.

And ... that's actually the right framing? This isn't about making government "more efficient" or more productive; it is "anti-government" at its core. Musk called federal workers "the opposition," which says it all. He's a threat to our government, which is to say, he's a threat to all of us.

Reporters: I don’t want to hear what Musk or Trump said about whether their actions are legal. They are documented liars. The answer from legal experts is NO. The law clearly shows that they do NOT have the legal authority to stop congressionally authorized payments or independent agencies.

While Trump didn’t get the concessions he wanted from Canada and Mexico and chickened out on his tariffs, he did allow an immigrant to gain access to important and sensitive Federal computers.

So, Mexico has agreed to do what it is already doing? www.reuters.com/article/worl...

One of my party facts is that according to polls, Americans believe foreign aid is about 25% of the federal budget and on average that it *should* be about 10%. The actual number is less than 1%. Foreign aid has long been a boogey man of the right, so it's not surprising they're vilifying it now.

If you’ve ever asked yourself “what would I have done during the fall of the Weimar Republic?” you are now in the American version of it.

if I understand American politics correctly, progressivism is something that requires 60 senate votes to work, while national conservatism doesn’t require any votes at all

We are so cooked

It’s official: Elon Musk’s staffers have now illegally obtained classified information from the USAID office. Here’s a recap of what’s happening:

This is why you don’t surrender in advance. The flagrantly illegal can be stopped. It sucks that it’s falling to ordinary workers, not, say, the police, or Chuck Schumer with an NBC camera crew manning the line. You know, the ppl whose job this actually is. But they can be stopped.

“It’s a coup,” said a current USAID official. It was unclear when, if ever, the agency would be up and running again, the official added. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

@jaimeharrison.bsky.social @chuckschumer.com @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social @gretchenwhitmer.bsky.social if these federal workers can do something to stop the unauthorized takeover of our government, why can’t you?! dcmediagroup.us/2025/02/02/f...
