New article out! I wrote about a small collection of eight salted paper prints by W. H. F. Talbot, housed in the Polish Academy of Sciences Kórnik Library. In addition to discussing these photographs, it explores the role of diplomats in the diffusion of paper photography across Central Europe

My latest article is out! It argues that the public subvention of photography in Parisian hospitals enabled the institutionalisation of photography and shaped the kind of photography that could be done #photohist #histmed 📷📸🗂️ It took me literal years to write!! www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

Check out our Humanities Research Seminars programme. Very exciting opportunities to learn about a diverse range of topics, from the history of women's employment to the formlessness of the novel! All welcome (external guests please book here: https://buff.ly/4huoXPi )

My website is a bit shabby as I made it myself… it needs work but here you find links to a lot of my writing that is available online - www.michellehenning.co.uk/writing.html

A serendipitous day since it was also my first day back on site since having a stress fracture in my foot. Feeling lucky to work with a wonderful collection AND lovely interesting people ✨

My long awaited visit to the NCC finally arrived today and it was so worth it! I got to work with some incredible objects, supported by very helpful collections access and conservation teams, and ended with a fab tour of the incredible new storage hall thanks to @lauragrayblair.bsky.social

Fabulous 📸 #opportunity 📢 here!

“What the library is to the student or the laboratory to the chemist, the dark room is to the photographer. In it its operations are begun and ended; it is his workshop and storeroom in one.”

I had a very interesting workshop with @saradominici.bsky.social yesterday. She raised a number of theoretical and hypothetical questions related to darkroom practice. Such as what does a plate look like over time if its developed, washed NOT fixed but varnished. I had no idea. Let's find out.

Huge thanks to @tonyrichards.bsky.social for a superb workshop on all things wet collodion at his amazing studio in Leigh. So excited to return to my book on the darkroom in light of this experience ✨

I wrote an article for this special issue on Darkrooms last year and it’s available open access www.eshph.org/journal/phot...

Deeply honoured to have contributed to the relaunch issue of Visual Culture in Britain @vcib.bsky.social 🎨 My short essay uses my illustrations as a starting point to discuss the normalcy of Whiteness in the reception of Greco-Roman art and how Critical Whiteness Studies helps me articulate this

In the unlikely case that what you need this festive season is an open access article by me, here’s my piece from Media Theory earlier this year, on photographic sensitivity in the 1930s - another taster of stuff to come in my book next year. journalcontent.mediatheoryjournal.org/index.php/mt...
