the ten principles of the ALA’s 2021 cataloging code of ethics. DEI is an ethical principle. If only people like me (white, able-bodied men) do this work, then biases in the formulation & application of our organizational schemes will go undetected and uncorrected, and users will be underserved. 📚

How real folks outside our tech bubble use the web: 😮 Some have connection speeds as low as 20 Mbps 😮 Most use the same modem for 5-10 years 😮 Avg person replaces their computer every 5.6 years 😮 11% use browser versions that are up to 5 years old www.speedcurve.com/blog/six-thi... #webperf #ux

We go to great lengths to get the information we need. We often interview unwilling participants. We nurture networks of informants. We write so that our audiences can understand. We simplify the complex. (1/3)

I mean, we *are* a joyful bunch, and there totally *is* a lot of laughing. 😄 It's intentional. This is what @astro.build was designed to be. If you're not having fun (right along with us), then we're not doing it right.

Just finished learning how to build my first Astro blog! Check it out at docs.astro.build via @astro.build I actually giggled with joy during the tutorial when seeing things work so well! It reminds me of the excitement I felt when starting out with web development. 😀

Oh look, it's Astro Together! Relive @astro.build's in-person event from last May and find yourself in our photo gallery if you were there: astro.build/blog/astro-t... Many thanks to Vocation Events for coordinating a one-of-a kind experience! (If you have a limited edition t-shirt, share a pic!)

“Focus on what actually creates change. The world doesn’t need your guilt & exhaustion. It needs your energy, presence & ability to actually do something. Burning yourself out doesn’t make you a better person. Shrink your sphere of concern until it matches your sphere of influence” #utpol

That thing where you've been travelling/sick/mostly offline for a couple of days, and only find out that Bregman signed with the Red Sox because of a post matching search filters for Astro. 😄 (Why it's super convenient that I'm happy to see ANY post matching "blue jay" that my searches return!)

Thought Astro 5.3 could only be 1.92% better than 5.2? How about 400% Introducing faster rendering and more 🚀 astro.build/blog/astro-5...

Stopping in our tracks before hitting the "release" button on a new minor version and spending an hour to dig deep and hash out a better included error message. For better or worse, how we roll at Astro!

I’m going to start a 🧵of Canadian 80s music. Maybe not everyday, but often. Inspired by @cdnhistoryehx.bsky.social & an 80s station I’ve been listening to, I have a new appreciation for a lot of songs. I’d be remiss if I didn’t start with Northern Lights. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJN3...

I wish products would stop blocking users from their home page by redirecting to the app when authenticated. There are many reasons to visit a site while signed in — to find docs, reference pricing, and share your design with others. You invested a lot to bring your site to life. Don't hide it!

I want to be informed, but doom scrolling was absolutely wrecking my mental health. So, I built this: The Privy Post. It's a text-only summary of the top 10 stories happening right now. No links, no images, no clickbait. Built with AstroJS 👇 privypost.com

The moment. This plover was hauling & I was barely able to keep it in my viewfinder. Just before it landed, it touched the water with its wing. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but it felt like an unnecessary flourish; a little extra pizzazz from a top flyer. #birds #photography #birdphotography

I may have gone a bit overboard on the link decoration, but @astro.build makes it ridiculously easy to decorate links with a plugin at build time. #sorrynotsorry

✨ Really happy with how much better the code snippets look on my Astro-powered site now! I used to think presenting code was a chore, and honestly, the results were often just... boring & flat. 😩 Enter: 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐞! 🧵 👇

I wish I could grow a goatee as wicked as the @astro.build logo has. (Can't not see it)

My love language is optional notes down the octave.

New list dropping of Women in Tech, to make things they say more discoverable! - Tell me who you think should be added - Comment or DM if you'd like to be added! - Thank you to people who put pronouns in their bios ♥️

Achievement unlocked: Auntie Sarah earned a review of "VERY cool" from the niblings for dropping a bass line for Espresso. 9 yo is getting cast in bigger and better school/community musical roles, so I'll take it before she entirely eclipses my achievements! (arr. MaryAnne Muglia & Kate Crellin)

I've written a lot of things I'm proud of. (Many of them, in the tutorial!) But somewhere near the top of my list has to be my acknowledgement to Chris Swithinbank, who designed and created the @astro.build tutorial UI: "If you can click it, you can thank Chris for it!" astro.build/blog/astro-t...
