Dear elected official texting me for money: HOW FUCKING DARE YOU. DO SOMETHING.

This is the week to call your House Rep and tell them to oppose the budget resolution. The 5Calls app is great for this.

The weekly "What's the Plan?" call from the Indivisible cofounders, every Thursday at 3pm ET, may be the only thing keeping me sane. Thank you @leahgreenberg.bsky.social @ezralevin.bsky.social @indivisible.org indivisible.zoom.us/webinar/regi...

This illustrates a concept I just learned - Brandolini's Law, or the bullshit asymmetry principle - that the amount of energy to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude larger than that needed to produce it.

Just saw this: "The electoral college is DEI for red states." The lie is where?

Just found the tracker www.project2025.observer by redditors u/rusticgorilla and u/mollynaquafina - looks like a super useful resource, unfortunately.

We need Pete Buttigieg as a clear messenger, more than ever.

That's it in a nutshell. AI is great. IF you understand the asterisk.

How seriously would America take the inexpert opinions of a 53-year-old *woman* who'd had at least 13 children with at least 4 different partners? (Have as many kids with whoever you want; I'm pointing out a hypocrisy, not offering a judgment.)

I'm so here for this trend. LFG.

Reminder that a subscription to @wired.com can be yours for $12 and would be worth it at 10x that.

12 minutes took me from a casual fan to a voracious one. How can you not get curious about the first Pulitzer Prize-winner to perform at the Super Bowl?

You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

Hi there, Flashes app. You’re looking oldschool, right down to the filter options, and it’s a beautiful thing.

This 2003 article, "Fascism Anyone?" is, apparently, the magazine's most-reprinted article, so you may have read it. I had not. secularhumanism.org/2003/03/fasc...

Happy #NewsLiteracyWeek. These helpful phrases are great.

Two important things about calling Congresspeople! (1) each call is logged under only 1 topic (2) each caller is logged about an issue only 1x So 1 call per topic. No need to repeat. (However: there are MANY reasons to call these days.) TIL via @leahgreenberg.bsky.social of @indivisible.org

Happy #NewsLiteracyWeek!

Per Senator Murkowski Feb 5: "The US Senate phone system has been receiving around 1,600 calls each minute, compared to the 40 calls per minute we usually receive, which has disrupted our call systems." KEEP IT UP. Our Congress need to stay deluged with reminders that they're being held accountable.

Looking forward to today's "Bracing For Impact" @indivisible.org call, 3-4pm ET. These are my weekly dose of sanity, perspective and empowerment. indivisible.org/indivisible-...

@kim.senate.gov - I'm glad you're my senator. This is another great quick chat from @contrariannews.org .

Listen to this chat for quotes from Buffy, Animal House, and history - I think you'll come away impressed and heartened, as I am every time I hear @tommalinowski.bsky.social speak. I was delighted to have him as my House rep; hope he's on a ballot again ASAP.

Found this gem in an arcane NSF doc...key to know: The Constitution and law SUPERSEDES exec orders! "In the event of a conflict between policies issued at a lower tier versus policies issued at a higher tier, the higher tier policy will take precedence" nsf-gov-resources.nsf.gov/files/Resear...

"I will not write unless I am oriented perpendicularly to a large window. I'm not picky, but it must be quite large, and there must be sheets of cold rain pouring down outside. If the rain stops, so do I. I will not write without a bracing rain."

Great piece by @tarabannow.bsky.social about how Dr. Oz has gone from "misinformation gold mine" TV segments to potentially overseeing the health care of millions of Americans. www.statnews.com/2025/02/04/d...

I saw this by sahaf185 on 🧵 and have kept thinking about it - they're talking about something so important: "[T]he loss of those third spaces has hurt us so badly as a society. Once upon a time people would have these conversations with people they trusted at the bowling alley, the Elks..." 1/

If you're not subscribed to @wired.com it is SO worth your money. Especially as the first year is FIVE DOLLARS (and then $30, still a bargain). Tech news, yes, and so much more.

Confession: I’ve lived in the NYC tri-state area most of my life but still have only the vaguest idea what alternate side of the street parking is.
