Continental influx and pervasive matrilocality in Iron Age Britain rdcu.be/d72Fj - a fascinating paper from my @tcddublin.bsky.social colleagues Lara Cassidy, Dan Bradley and others, shedding light on the prominent role of women in Celtic societies

Check out my brother-in-law's @naturenorthwest.bsky.social fascinating and in-depth walk-and-talk at Inch if you're in the north west. He's an absolute fount of knowledge and it would be real treat if you're around

Met Éireann reporting gust of 185kmh at Mace Head which smashes the old all time record of 182kmh from Limerick in 1945. #StormÉowyn

Went to SuperValu at lunch to get stuff for tomorrow. Panic buying seemed to focus on loo roll, crisps and booze. Bit like Good Friday in the old days. Meanwhile I'm going to shelter in place with cats and cake. Do take care out there tomorrow especially if you're in the west.

Storm Éowyn: across the barricades from Norn Iron to the Republic. She knows no boundaries. We'll be panic-buying bread and loo roll in both Belfast and Dublin.

All 32 counties now have a red warning as the UK Met Office have upgraded Northern Ireland to red also! A very rare event. #StormÉowyn

The spread of health misinformation and disinformation poses a serious threat to public health. How can we respond to the danger and combat the tide of misinformation and disinformation to protect public health? Find out more in our latest Editorial: tinyurl.com/mtf95p25

Ireland rolls out the red carpet for Storm Eowyn on Friday. Warnings may change over the next few days. Keep an eye on met.ie for updates, and take care.

So I’m preparing to return to the gym after an absence of 8 years. I have my black gym pants. I have my gym shoes. What I don’t have is a mental defense against the tyranny of the beautiful body. I am not made of plastic, I am bumpy. Ideally I should have an aura of zen-like calm, but I am nervous

Amber jelly fungus on willow and ‘frost flowers’ caused by fungus in oak and beech on this wintery day, with alder catkins and wonderful woodbine hinting at the coming spring.

Is #dyslexia part of your life? My incredible aunt and swimming companion, Wyn McCormack, has created a series of important and in-depth videos on the different aspects of #dyslexia in second level education. Check them out here: www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...

It's January 6th, Nollaig na mBan (Women's Christmas). This is the day where I put my feet up and watch my fella cook me roast shoulder of lamb followed by a Cavan Christmas Pudding and the last of the brandy butter. Want to find out more about Nollaig na mBan? www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2...

Always nice to see the feisty siskins back at the bird feeder, bringing a splash of yellow. The males have a black cap. #donegal

This is the time of year where I post the obligatory self-congratulatory picture of my New Year’s Day swim at Kinnegar beach in Rathmullan

Looking forward to a custard-free Christmas. Highlights will include sitting by the fire draped in cats, re-reading "The Guest Cat" by Takashi Hiraide, spending time with my fella, and eating ridiculous amounts of plum pudding. See y'all in 2025!

🎉 Was great to award Prof. Mary McCarron, @tcddublin.bsky.social as winner of the @hrci.bsky.social Research Impact Award, for her work improving the lives of people with intellectual disabilities & dementia. Research was funded by @alzheimersocirl.bsky.social & the HRB. 👉 hrci.ie/hrci-hrb-joi...

Congratulations to Professor Mary McCarron and her incredible team in Trinity College Dublin for winning Health Research Charities Ireland's research impact award, and to @alzheimersocirl.bsky.social who co-funded the winning project through the HRCI-HRB Joint Funding Scheme #healthresearchmatters

If you're reading this, know that your life matters. Maybe you're having a rough time of it all, but you're not alone. Just waking up another day is an accomplishment, so take things one day at a time. I'm rooting for you. #positivity

Trinity have finally confirmed that Science Gallery Dublin will not reopen. The focus has been on how much of a cultural loss this is (which I agree with), but it also represents a lot of job losses in a small, struggling sector. www.irishtimes.com/ireland/educ...

With #autism, I need to curve silence around me in order to do the most basic things. When I am close to tears, faced with the mundane human tasks in this loud and jagged world. I am so bloody proud of myself for getting through each day without disaster. If this is your experience, be proud.

Sometimes I rail against the "tyranny of achievement". Big achievements are built on the small things of everyday life, and for some of us, these things can be bloody difficult and achieving them should be celebrated. Let’s recognise the #strugglesofsmallthings and our daily victories

Thanks @sharpmelk.bsky.social for sharing this really interesting scoping review of the issues and challenges within research culture - a topic that's receiving a lot more attention these days. It's so important that we examine the system with a commitment to transparency and accountability

Save the date! 📅 Thursday, 10th April We are thrilled to announce the Rare Disease Research Conference 2025 in UCD O'Reilly Hall. The Abstract Submission will be available soon, stay tuned!
