My lab is so busy this year @spspnews.bsky.social it is so amazing to see! #spsp2025

“How to change cultural defaults? Dismantle them.” -Sapna Cheryan @spspnews.bsky.social presidential plenary #spsp2025

“As a field we are well-equipped to meet these challenges. Multi-level problems require multi-level solutions.” @cydneydupree.bsky.social at the presidential plenary #spsp2025

“Data erasure has immense social and psychological consequences. The power of this is that it allows people to minimize the experience of entire groups of people.” —Stephanie Fryberg @spspnews.bsky.social presidential plenary #spsp2025

So glad to hear that @russellsagefdn.bsky.social and The Spencer Foundation are both remaining committed to funding and supporting #socialpsychology and #diversity science! Thanks @spspnews.bsky.social for bringing these funders here! #SPSP2025

Conferences are also for reunions with all of your friends!! Thanks @spspnews.bsky.social for bringing us all together again! #spsp2025

So happy my lab is here in Denver!! #SPSP2025

Yes! Fingers crossed all of our flights stay on time! I switched this morning to beat the snow, so SPSP bound officially (at least I hope!!!) #spsp2025

“We’re being very concrete about the reality,” Gavin said. “The paradox that a president or a cabinet member is in is that most of us want DEI to stay”—but at the same time, “we have to protect our institutions.”

Even this…every corner of our world impacted in ways I could have never imagined

Who all is going to #spsp2025 this year? I have a talk on Saturday morning with brand new data with my postdoc Esha Naidu all about identity flexibility and conflict! Hope to see you in Denver @spspnews.bsky.social

Erasing our history won't erase us. Transgender people have always been here — and we always will be.

Such amazing news about an incredible scholar and researcher on our team! Yay for Sydney!!!

Woo hoo! My lab is officially over here now!! Follow us and all of our amazing #psychology work!!! #science #diversityscience

I am so incredibly proud of the Masters thesis that @mohammadwiswall.bsky.social defended today all about racial ambiguity! Can’t wait to see what is next! Congrats!!!

Couldn’t be prouder or happier that the news is official for my husband @mslaterjohnson.bsky.social!! Duke definitely made the right choice! His work is so important especially in this present moment, so congrats on everthing and cheers to future science!!!!!! You did it!!! Such a huge deal!!!

Another belated brownbag shout out to Dr Ashley Harrell from Duke’s Sociology Department for telling us about her work looking at preferences people have for cooperation with bots vs humans! #socialpsychology

In 24 hours, you made over *100,000* calls to your reps to make your voice heard. Let's keep up this momentum! 🎉🙌🔥

My lab is the Duke Identity and Diversity Lab…guess what all of my grants are about….time to look for other funding 😡😭

The text on the front banners say 'We are the Firewall'. Massive demo in Berlin today against right-wing extremism.

It should have never been shut down in the first place…

Congrats to our amazing undergrad RA Camila for being accepted to present at the upcoming ACC Meeting of the Minds Conference the University of Pittsburgh! She will be presenting her work with my PhD student Mercedes focusing on Latino identity development and skin tone! #psychology

My first coffee hour for my intro to social class was a big success! This is honestly one of the best things I have added to my teaching here at Duke, way less pressure for students to come hang out and ask questions about life or anything!

New from @jackiemchen.bsky.social @chanelkmeyers.bsky.social @sarahegaither.bsky.social et al (confession: this kind of research drew me to becoming a social psychologist & studying prejudice, even though I've not done this type of work!) journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1... #PrejudiceResearch

A belated thank you to Dr Alesha Bond from Davidson for visiting us in our #brownbag series! It was so fun learning more about her work on how we categorize stereotypical and less stereotypical faces—both adult faces and kid faces! #psychology

First official lab meeting done! An amazing crew and this wasn’t even everyone!! So much science planned for this semester at Duke! #psychology

More congrats for my lab! @mohammadwiswall.bsky.social received a Clara Mayo Research Grant from SPSSI for his new work that will test how the diversity of one’s context can shift identity denial experiences for Multiracial Asian individuals!

Pretty much sums how I feel right now during this first week of classes….

Big news to start off the new school year! Esha, Mercedes, and Tose all won research grants from the Lafitte Foundation to study gesture in interactions, Latino voting behavior, and immigrant parent socialization!

Another paper to end 2024! Here we show that kids use mutual intentions frameworks (I want to join a group, and that group wants me to join) for gender and race group membership! BUT this is earlier (age 3) for gender and later (age 5) for race #psychology onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

A current fav book of our twins is seeing the reference made my night!

New paper out from our NSF Collaborative grant testing the widely used minimal group paradigm across multiple racial groups in the US! Overall, minimal group effects hold, but exploratory analyses show stronger effects with older kids and White kids. #psychology www.sciencedirect.com/science/auth...

That’s a WRAP for another amazing writing retreat! Definitely one of my favorite things I do Duke since being surrounded by this #blackexcellence energizes me so much!

The lab is headed to SRCD! Mercedes had her symposium on Latine identity development accepted! Plus, our Bass Connections work with the Museum of Life and Science was accepted as a talk and poster focusing on children’s persistence in museum tasks & STEM identity!

Does anyone else’s phones autocorrect PhD to pjs, or just mine!? (What is it trying to tell me…lol)
