oops I just reposted something I didn't mean to! Not sure anyone noticed something uncharacteristic, but if so, that is why.

“We cannot allow those who are sowing division to win. Blaming immigrants is an age-old trick to create fear and distract us from the takeover of our economy by billionaires.”--IUE-CWA President Carl Kennebrew. Reporting by @lfelizleon.bsky.social

Needs to be said again and again.

Seems pretty clear that, rather than marking a turn away from neoliberalism, Trump’s “tariffs” were more like sanctions, used to bludgeon countries into accepting trade deals that are even more predatory. A point @ddayen.bsky.social made here.

Looking forward to this event with @sarahjones.bsky.social, and couldn't come at a more important time. Chicago, come through! This Friday.

Encountered on the daily out in the field by our labor compliance reps 👇 see constructionwagewatch.org for only the tip of the iceberg ****** Construction Bosses Are Using Elaborate Schemes to Harm Workers prospect.org/labor/2025-0...

I know there's a lot going on but I've been working on this one for a bit. It's about an atrocious and widespread practice in the construction industry that cruelly burdens workers and shields bosses from accountability.

A construction boss told a worker to start an LLC. That worker didn't realize the boss was claiming him as a subcontractor. Now that worker is on the hook for $18k in employer taxes to the IRS, even though he was functionally a WORKER. These schemes are common. My latest prospect.org/labor/2025-0...

The construction industry has developed elaborate schemes that shield bosses who deny workers their rightful pay and benefits. These schemes involve shell companies, labor brokers, and sometimes outright fraud. And workers end up paying a terrible price. My latest. prospect.org/labor/2025-0...

The construction industry has developed a series of schemes to deny workers pay and benefits, while shielding everyone up the contracting chain. Infuriating piece from @sarahlazare.bsky.social and @workdaymagazine.bsky.social: prospect.org/labor/2025-0...

Three Times Workers Resisted Fascism in Minnesota History - read this excellent piece by Amie Stager for @workdaymagazine.bsky.social workdaymagazine.org/three-times-...

Shameful for @notredame.bsky.social to cancel @emanabdelhadi.bsky.social's talk next week. Here is the end of her latest piece for @inthesetimesmag.bsky.social--words that will keep ringing more and more true each day. inthesetimes.com/article/arab...

Here are historical examples of Minnesota workers refusing to be divided according to race or gender, and uniting to oppose fascism. Includes the Union Defense Guard, which were union members who confronted the Silver Shirts in 1938. Great piece by Amie Stager. workdaymagazine.org/three-times-...

This quote from Nick Estes, reported in an article by Isabela Escalona, deserves extra emphasis. workdaymagazine.org/university-o...

Please read this important reporting from Isabela Escalona about a rally organized by Clerical workers with AFSCME 3800 and graduate workers with GLU-UE Local 1105. They're calling on UMN not to capitulate to the Trump admin. Here are their demands. workdaymagazine.org/university-o...

Horrifying. Free Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia! (Link to statement from SMART here: www.smart-union.org/smart-stands...)

Dem Party "luminaries" like Obama, Clinton, Biden, and three quarters of Harper's Letter signatories, have been silent as the Trump admin abducts and deports graduate students for thought crimes. By me and @ahjohnson.bsky.social. inthesetimes.com/article/demo...

A review of the signatories of the now-infamous 2020 Harper’s Letter shows that only 24% who put their name on the letter defending “Open Debate” have come out in opposition to Trump’s war on campus free speech. By me and @ahjohnson.bsky.social inthesetimes.com/article/demo...

Horrifying figures. Every US news room should be condemning this. watson.brown.edu/costsofwar/p...

"Put simply, Christian Zionism is the backbone of U.S. and global support for Israel."

Outrageous and unacceptable.

UE leaders from around the country held an emergency rally and press conference today in Minneapolis. The rally was held in response to the recent abduction of a graduate student at the University of Minnesota. (1/4)

The worst thing the federal government has done to unions in my lifetime happened last night. The second worst thing was three weeks ago. The labor movement will either protect ourselves right now or be smashed. That's all there is to it. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/they-are-g...

Two of Tateona Williams's children froze to death because she couldn't afford anywhere but her van to live and she couldn't get any help finding a shelter. Homelessness among families with young kids like hers has recently seen a shocking rise. www.the74million.org/article/the-...

When asked about the Yemeni people killed in the bombing that was discussed in the Signal group chat, Jeffrey Goldberg was dismissive, and eager to change the subject. I argue this orientation to US killings is why he was in the group chat to begin with.

Jeffrey Goldberg dismissing Yemeni deaths is why he was in the group chat to begin with. I wrote about Goldberg's callous disregard for the people killed by the bombings at the center of his blockbuster story, and what this says about US media.

This is how Jeffrey Goldberg responded when Deepa Fernandes asked him on NPR about the 53 people the US killed in Yemen. www.npr.org/2025/03/26/1...

Awesome to see this kind of action. Clerical, technical, healthcare, and grad student workers rallying to tell UMN don’t comply with the Trump admin, don't engage in political repression, and don’t allow ICE to round up students.

Thinking about all the US-made bombs that have hit schools, factories, warehouses, wedding parties and homes in Yemen since March 2015 and how there was never any US media fixation—in fact, hardly any press attention at all. Which is to say, unjust US war is the primary scandal, or ought to be.

My biggest takeaway from the leaked signal thread is that the people who helm the biggest military the world has ever seen are incredibly glib and disrespectful about the people they kill, and talk about green-lighting bombings like they're ordering takeout at McDonald's.

Dozens more pregnant and postpartum women have died in Texas hospitals since the state banned abortion, our analysis shows. As the maternal mortality rate dropped nationally, it rose in Texas by 33%.

If only there were as much outrage about the US bombing Yemen as there is about US officials being sloppy with military secrets.

"Everything is being crushed: the lives of innocent people, their dignity, and their hopes for a better future." From Hossam Shabat’s final article before Israel killed him in an air strike.

this is heartbreaking.

What Medicaid cuts could mean for disabled people and the home care workers who provide them care. "Home healthcare is crucial to my autonomy and ability to independently live a dignified life." Important story by Isabela Escalona.
