When I was born 3 months premature in 1977, weighing 1 pound, 15 ounces, doctors at Mayo Clinic saved my life. I stayed there for 3 months, until I was cleared to go home. 48 years later, the current administration is cutting funding for medical research at the Mayo Clinic. The Cruelty is the Point.

I'm not a sports fan in general, but my husband, (a sportswriter and photographer) loves watching football. So, for tonight's game, I made chili and served it with chips and dip, pretzels and peanuts.

My aunt (my dad's oldest sister) is celebrating her 88th birthday tomorrow. We got together today for a birthday party. Happy birthday, Aunt Sonja!

I am proud to work at an indie bookstore that uplifts diverse voices. I put together book displays for Black History Month and the other cultural events listed. Customers say they feel welcome. This is not 'DEI'. These events acknowledge historically marginalized voices.

Monday was International Holocaust Remembrance Day. As the best friend of a Jewish woman, I wanted to do a book display at the bookstore where I work. I live in a small Iowa town. A Jewish woman happened to stop in the store, noticed the display & thanked us. We must always remember this history.

Wishing my mom a happy birthday today! It just happened to be my day off, so she came over here to visit (we live in neighboring towns). We enjoyed lunch, lattes at a coffee shop, and spending time together.

My sister Mary and me, Christmas 2024.

A family tradition: Every Christmas, my mom and her youngest grandson make punch. Cheers!

As a bookseller at an independent bookstore, naturally I had to buy books for my family for Christmas!

Scenes from my parents' Christmas event. I got a much-needed new blender. Thanks, Mom and Dad!

My nephew lights a candelabra, painted in the Norwegian folk-art style of rosemaling by my mom.

My parents hosted a Christmas event at their home. Their house is always so cozy!

My parents hosted their Christmas event today, so we attended. My mom always bakes an assortment of homemade pies, and this year was no exception! I enjoyed a piece of chocolate pie. Thanks, Mom!

Finished wrapping gifts! My parents are hosting a Christmas event tomorrow, and we will visit Nate's dad on Dec. 24-25. Then off to Illinois for my mom's siblings' Christmas. It's such a busy time of year!

Well, it's time for my inevitable winter cold virus. :( I'm staying home from work today and trying to rest, medicate and hydrate. The cats are a help.

Kieler, Wisconsin in black and white. Heading home to Iowa now.

Nate and his brother Jim toss a football around on a very chilly day with a bitterly cold wind.

The meal is served! Happy Thanksgiving!

Here I am with my homemade pumpkin pie.

Nate and his oldest brother Jim peeling potatoes and organize a snack tray ahead of Thanksgiving dinner.

We are on the road to Wisconsin to see Nate's dad and one of Nate's brothers for Thanksgiving. We stopped at our local gas station and someone was waiting to greet me! 😍 Once a cat mom, always a cat mom, I guess!

I made pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. We are going to visit Nate's dad in Wisconsin. One of Nate's four siblings will be there, so it is a small group this year. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Watching the game with one cat each stretched out next to us. <3

Nov 21, 2016. Nate went to work, with no idea what would transpire. He said hello to a tabby kitten he saw in his office parking lot. The kitten jumped in his car and refused to leave. So, Nate brought him home. The rest is history. Happy 8th-anniversary 'Gotcha Day', Dibs! We love you!

Dibs and Bennett. My husband, who is very allergic to cats, rescued Dibs as a kitten when he jumped in his car & wouldn't leave. I took Bennett in after our neighbors kicked him out of their house for impregnating their female cat. Dibs is an Internet celebrity cat via Facebook at DibstheSnowKitty.

We had sleet and some snow flurries here in northern Iowa this morning. I guess winter is approaching. I am glad to have the day off so I can stay home in my warm house with my two cats, lots of blankets, and hot tea.

This is an excellent idea! Book It! was the highlight of third grade for me in 1986. I grew up on a farm and we didn't go out to eat often. When I got a personal pan pizza b/c of Book It!, it was a big deal. My hometown Pizza Hut still operates in same location 40 years later!

If you don't follow my Internet celebrity cat on Facebook, there's no time like the present! Just look up DibstheSnowKitty and join his over 9,000 followers! Dibs is famous for a video I took of him playing in a pile of snow. He now has a cat brother, Bennett. Bennett is a cuddly lap cat.

This illustrates the ideal of the public library its services. It also illustrates why I was a public library worker for 12 years. It was the first career choice I had made that truly felt right for me. I loved helping others. Public libraries are a beacon of information & lifelong learning.

Nate took this picture of me taking a picture of the beautiful University of Notre Dame campus. While I'm not a sports fan, my husband is a sportswriter and lifelong ND football fan (his dad is an alumnus). Whenever we go to games, my favorite part is taking pictures.

I work at an independent bookstore and consider coffee shops my second home; no wonder I love this place!

Here are some more of my pictures from my husband's and my weekend visit to the University of Notre Dame to watch a football game. I'm not really a sports fan, but I do enjoy taking scenery photos on campus.

We just returned home from the University of Notre Dame, where we watched a football game (my husband's dad is a ND alumnus and my husband is a huge fan of the football team. I enjoy going along with him to games & taking pictures. Here are some of them.

Indulging in some delicious food and drinks at Chili's.

We made it to Michigan City, and got a hotel room upgrade, "just because"!

Galena, Illinois; one of my favorite places.

More scenes from the road.
