February felt like a particularly sullen, stagnant month creatively for me. Trying to jump into March with a bit more oomph and I’ve gotten seven subs sent out and a new poem written, which feels like momentum.

“Sloppy eggs and droopy French toast and my little boy smiling beside his sister and all the best things in life.” Brisk, beautiful, and bittersweet story from @cuylermeade.bsky.social in the latest trampset!

“…two forgotten, empty things at the end of the world.” A haunting piece from my very talented friend @rachelsavagewrites.bsky.social out today!

No purchases for me today, but I will be happily skipping over to my public library to check out a few weekend reads.

Michigan radio DJs love playing here comes the sun when it’s fourteen degrees and snowing

“A haloed gibbous moon shone through the fabric, illuminating the ground in rose-tinted sanctity.” I love this magical story by @cuylermeade.bsky.social ✨

We're so excited about @cuylermeade.bsky.social #magicalrealism forthcoming this week to Intrepidus Ink. Congratulations, Cuyler! 🙌 ❤️

I love this story by the ever talented @jaimegill.bsky.social

I’m 31 today. Highly recommend taking every birthday off from work even if just to read and bake and hang out with your cats 🖤

Finished Susie Boyt’s Loved and Missed earlier in the weekend and I can’t stop thinking of it. Exactly the melancholy, lyrical, nostalgic read I love most, plus it made me cry (twice!) which is a rarity.

I do love a good house sketch. This one was for a friend <3

Just read through a very slow-going draft and see I’ve said it’s April, May, and October at various points even though the story takes place all in one day

No, no, no, no, no.

Moving the short story post to Fridays. New today: Essential Memoir from Christian Escalona in BULL Fiction: @jrdawson.bsky.social in @uncannymagazine.bsky.social Andrew Rutledge in @maudlinhouse.bsky.social and @sarlynh.bsky.social in @trampset.bsky.social and @flashfrog.bsky.social Links:

I simply can’t imagine a better start to the new year than reading my words in one of my favorite magazines. Thank you Flash Frog! 🩵

I’ve been journaling a page a day this year, and though it’s mostly rambling (as journals often are), I love doing a bit of writing by hand every day.

I haven’t really committed to concrete resolutions over the last few years, but for whatever reason, I’ve got six goals/hopes/dreams/whatever-you’d-like-to-call-thems for 2025—and half of them are writing related, of course!

It always feels silly to promote myself in this little echo chamber, but I’m really proud of the year I’ve had! Four stories and three poems now live in the world, and I’m so grateful to these publications for letting me into this space. Looking forward to another year of pining for rejections 🖤
