Gustav-Adolf Mossa, Salome (1908) I first got to know Mossa when one hot afternoon in Nice, I randomly walked into the Beaux-Arts. I looked at one painting after the other & could not believe it had taken me 20 odd years to discover him. Still cannot believe he is so little known.

Son of Mahmood Mamdani (yoohoo!) and Mira Nair! If he is not the mayor, I’d be very disappointed in NYers.

On the importance of correct sentence structure…

White people sending thumbs up emoji in colour is it’s own version of funny.

When I was a teenager, I loved to watch a TV series, broadcasted by the Iranian state tv, about Asparukh Khan. It was not an Iranian production. I reckon it must have been Bulgarian. Does anyone know of such series?

All the memories that fit in a bag… Some of the things I carried over from a recent short trip to Tehran!

The fact that so many people, especially historians who know the history of the development of the idea, still believe in the existence of the One God is so fascinating to me. Even more so because they know of the existence of vast civilisations that never developed such an idea & did just fine!

Rubio and Vance tweeting in defense of the German far-right party, the AfD. We are in a very, very dark place.

Mute, I rise from a heavenly dream, While all the world lies deaf and still; I cannot speak the dream I keep, Nor are others ready to hear… من گنگ خوابدیده و عالم تمام کر من عاجزم ز گفتن و خلق از شنیدنش

The Circus has come into town. I ‘spose his ‘special envoy’ Witkoff will soon be elevated to the secretary of state. That would be a nice show to watch.

Now we have the answer. The original story was legit then Bezos backed down.

"He (King George III) has excited domestic insurrections amongst us [note: by enslaved Africans], and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages..." - the final complaint about British rule in the Declaration of Independence

“We are Jewish academics who have devoted our lives to teaching and research on college campuses. If there were a pervasive culture of antisemitism on campuses, we would know about it, and we would fight it. But we have observed no such thing.” academeblog.org/2025/04/25/i...

If you had to delete one person from the history of English literature, who would it be? 1- Geoffrey Chaucer 2- Charles Dickens 3- PG Wodehouse 4- Henry James 5- F. Scott Fitzgerald

Everyone should read this book by my BFF, Reza Zia-Ebrahimi, »Antisémitisme et islamophobie. Une histoire croisée«

People think AI is a good idea because we are somehow convinced that technological progress is always a good thing.

I am myself a veteran of the great “double space after full-stop” wars of the 1990’s. So many comrades we lost in that conflict. May their misguided souls rest in peace.

Let’s hope the rest of the world’s electorate has as much sense as the Canadian one.
