Y’all, Amazon is bad for writers, bad for publishers, bad for customers, bad for workers. bad for democracy. Would be wonderful if we could break its stranglehold.

Here is asteroid (52246) Donaldjohanson as seen by Lucy’s LORRI camera! It’s a contact binary/bi-lobate asteroid 🎉🎊 Image taken on April 20, 2025 from a range of approximately 1100 km. Credit: NASA/Goddard/SwRI/Johns Hopkins APL/NOIRLab urldefense.com/v3/__https:/... #PlanetSci #SciComm 🧪

It's not over, we're still fighting

"What does NASA do for us?" You might think NASA only benefits Americans in Florida or Texas. You'd be wrong. 🔭🧪 www.nasa.gov/fy-2023-econ...

"Days ago, the Administration’s nominee to lead NASA called for a “new golden age of science and discovery” at the agency. The proposed budget from within the White House — which cuts NASA science by 47% — would plunge NASA into a dark age instead." www.planetary.org/press-releas...

Part of NASA's remit is to STUDY EARTH which is both a really big deal and in many ways harder than our staring into the cosmos. There are so many worse things happening directly, but today I might need to mourn.

I will surely come up with something thoughtful to say about the proposal to cut NASA's science budget in half, and especially one that reminds everyone that the cosmos is worth our curiosity and NASA explores it quite cheaply but also, FUCK FUCK FUCK, that's a major cut to climate change science 🧪

Stop telling American scientists to just move to another country challenge

For 48 hours, we’re helping Mai, a single mom facing CONSTANT, terrifying displacement & bombardment. 📣 I have a bold challenge—she’s found housing but needs rent. In two days I want us to get HALF her rent. I think we can do it. 📣 0/453 - every 5 is life 💜 let’s do it!! tiny.cc/HelpMai

Hate to be millennial about it all but it is just mental that my whole working life has just been a series of recessions and “economic shocks”, underpinned by stagnant wages

It’s that time of year- Short and sweet-LILIES KILL CATS Lilies are one of the most dangerous plants out there when it comes to cats. Just brushing against them can cause kidney failure and a horrible, painful death. If they survive, it can be a 5 figure vet bill, and days at the hospital 1/

Rip brave escalator. Took three conference days for it to get to the struggle zone 🥲. #lpsc2025

Being told to just “wait it out. There’s been hard times before” is so infuriating. I can’t wait it out if I can’t pay rent or my student loans. If grants don’t get disbursed, I can’t afford to just wait it out and “take a breath”

USGS Folks can’t be at #LPSC2025 and someone hung up a shirt with a flower as a memorial of sorts. We’re already feeling the loss of their presence and a bunch of other members of the community who can’t be here for a myriad of reasons.

NASA briefing telling folks to get through tough times, stay positive, and focus on the science. I CAN’T FOCUS ON THE SCIENCE THAT I DO WITHOUT A JOB #LPSC2025

Happy International Women’s Day 😌

Delighted for everyone able to make it to a rally to stand up for science today. Just a reminder - at its heart, what we need to be doing is standing up for each other, and fighting against fascism. It might be science today, it's history every day, it's our families and our memory.

White House may seek to slash NASA’s science budget by 50 percent arstechnica.com/space/2025/0...

There are reports The White House is considering a 50% cut to NASA’s science programs, and 25% of its overall budget, which would be catastrophic for both current and planned missions. But, there is still time for the administration to reconsider. Read our full statement ⬇️

NSF employees were unlawfully reclassified from career to probationary, and then fired. www.reuters.com/world/us/us-...

For those in Colorado who aren't aware of the ongoing strike at King Soopers:

This is an attack on US science. NSF staff provide critical support for scientific infrastructure and global excellence. These are valuable dedicated public servants. Please contact your reps, write letters, make noise! Are there any plans for rallies at NSF headquarters? Journalists: COVER THIS!

For three days you’ve conjured magic for Mohamed and his family ✨all of your help goes towards getting this family out of the frigid cold + into an apartment. We still have a little way to go - can we get to 2400 tonight? Just 139 to go, we can do it!

i see people comparing this to the way trans youth healthcare was the canary in the coal mine for attacking all trans people, and i talk about this in the piece 🩷
