Of course, the idea of modern work farms is a terribly misguided one. History shows that institutional solutions, no matter how much fresh country air they come with, are totally ineffective in combating social ills in addition to being incredibly expensive. Which is why they mostly disappeared.

It's hard not to think of Ricky Gervais at the end of The Office begging "Please don't make me redundant." Of course I'll miss the luxury hotel rooms, sumptuous meals, and passionate exchanges of the conference circuit.

Heather Love gave a talk recently on "Infrastructure and Intimacy," but I don't know if/when it will be published. I'm trying to recall some of her main reference points: Gayle Rubin's "Geologies of Queer Studies" and Samuel Delaney's "Times Square Red, Times Square Blue" stood out.
