movieweb.com/francis-ford... Suck it, The Razzies

Happy birthday, Vincente Minnelli! We're watching MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, and also talking about it at the end of next month as part of Scarecrow Academy: scarecrowvideo.org/posts/scarec...

Our beloved Lynne Marie Stewart passed away a couple days ago so we watched her play a stewardess in the 1982 film Pandemonium. RIP

Happy birthday Tea Leoni, you have made a Deep Impact on the movie world.

New episode of Viva Physical Media with @colonelmortimer.bsky.social and @whateverokay.bsky.social is here! 💿 📽️

Today is the birthday of Miles Teller. Watching THE SPECTACULAR NOW in store, which stars the equally spectacular Shailene Woodley, and Brie Larson in an early role.

Cohen & Tate (1988) Happy birthday, Eric Red!

After a bit of a break, @scarecrowvideo.bsky.social cult film column Unstreamable is back to bringing you movies that are too wild for algorithms. Your Unstreamable hosts are presenting William Friedkin's masterpiece TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A. (1985)! Get ready for an acid-washed descent on 2/27 😎

Our Game Day picks!

Check out Ida Lupino starring as Emperor Palpatine in The Devil's Rain! Playing now on our screen.

Even though our favorite Michael Beck movie is The Warriors, we played Xanadu to celebrate his birthday. Skate on, amigos

Happy birthday, Franz Schubert! Showing Kurosawa's HIGH AND LOW because it features some of his music, all uncredited, and because that's enough of an excuse to play a Kurosawa film.

Happy birthday Gene Hackman! Let's watch "ALL NIGHT LONG" starring Gino, Babs, and a Quaid bro. Written by WD Richter, who also wrote Big Trouble in Little China AND Buckaroo Banzai!!

Another day's worth of movies in the can

What brings all these movies together?

Can you guess the theme?

It's Ray Stevens birthday, so we are playing a selection of the least questionable ditties done in his unique brand of "comedy". Surf'in USSR up next, very timely.

Happy birthday to the great Neil Diamond! Let's watching him sing for his supper in "THE MERLE HAGGARD STORY". Later, it was retitled "THE JAZZ SINGER" to appeal to modern day audiences from the 1920's.

Today is the birthday of Sergei Eisenstein. Though known as a silent film director, he lived long enough to foray into sound, so today, we're watching one of those films: IVAN THE TERRIBLE PART 1. There is also a PART 2, but Eisenstein died before he could finish PART 3.

Happy birthday to Diane Lane! We are going to watch her go up against Ser Larry of House Olivier in George Roy Hill's Paris soaked young love (not with Olivier!) story, "A LITTLE ROMANCE".

A piping hot serving of our YouTube show to fill your stomach and distract your brain!

Playing David Lynch all day in the store. Right now is a rare one: the three-episode miniseries HOTEL ROOM on VHS.

At a loss for words here in the store! David Lynch is/was many things to many people, but it will most likely be his iconoclastic nature as a one-of-a-kind artist that he will be remembered for. The Red Room will need to stock up on coffee & smokes. Our world was a better place for his being in it.

Happy DOB to William "One-Shot" Beaudine, director of the Saturday afternoon classic from 1966 "BILLY THE KID VS DRACULA". Personal fav ranked right beside Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein for childish appeal! Let's watch!

If it's Jan 14th, that means we are playing the amazing film about Marjoe! Starring Marjoe! Called "MARJOE" Happy birthday Gortner, and because he is in it for the $$, no birthday cards or gift certificates. Academy award for best doc of 1972.

Looks like we're going to the dogs today. First we played William Wegman's ALPHABET SOUP, and now it's WHITE FANG (1936) - the latter in honor of Jack London's birthday. In fact, we could fill the day with all the WHITE FANG adaptations we have in the store. There's even a series.

Started the day with BUS RILEY'S BACK IN TOWN. Imperfect, but it's got a young Michael Parks and Ann Margret so it could be a lot worse.

Watching Dhoom 2 in honor of the best, wiggliest dancer of all life, birthday boy Hrithik Roshan!!

Ending our night with OM SHANTI OM, which we started quite a bit earlier in the evening, but isn't the longest Bollywood film by a long shot. Certainly a fun one, though.

Happy birthday, Imelda Staunton! While she doesn't physically appear in CHICKEN RUN, her voice does, and with the new Nick Park WALLACE & GROMIT movie appearing on Netflix, we thought it was worth reminding people of that.

We were so enthralled watching Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Caine, and birthday girl Susannah York in the delightfully trashy X Y & ZEE that we forgot to post about it while it was playing. Our apologies.

What conquered the world again? It? Can you be more specific? While we wait to hear, lets celebrate the DOB of Lee Van Cleef, better known for westerns du spaghet & TV ninja work by watching him co-star with Peter Graves sci-fi monster movie "IT CONQUERED THE WORLD".

Happy birthday to a little-known musician from Tupelo, MS named Elvis Aaron Presley! Watching "ELVIS; THAT'S THE WAY IT IS" from 1970. Personal fav scene is when The King meets another King named Cary Grant!

Happy space birthday to Erin Gray! Her birth gives us carte blanche to show as much 'Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" as we desire. Thanks for making space sexy for an entire generation of Terrans! Maybe later, some Silver Spoons too?

The Miyazaki marathon continues with a new Blu-ray acquisition of SHERLOCK HOUND, thanks to the fundraising efforts of hazel. And speaking of anime acquisitions, stayed tuned for our next Big Score reveal!

Starting our day off with CASTLE IN THE SKY, in honor of birthday boy Hayao Miyazaki. Called LAPUTA in Japan (after the floating island in GULLIVER'S TRAVELS), this was the first movie officially released by Studio Ghibli (yes, NAUSICAA technically predates Studio Ghibli).

Let's start off today with "LETHAL WEAPON 5" where Danny Glover asked for too much $$ and was replaced by action movie stalwart Goldie Hawn as Murtaugh, who at this point was NOT too old for this shit! Wait this isn't that, but a mullet rich 90s-time waster called "BIRD ON A WIRE". Let's watch!

Celebrating the great Oscar Micheaux's birthday with GOD'S STEP CHILDREN. And remember, we close at 4pm today (don't worry, we'll get your movies back on time).

Let's start off the new year by celebrating the birthday of actor Frank Langella with his titular role as Dr. Acula in John Badham's sexy unbuttoned shirt version of "DRACULA"!

Whatever you do, please DO NOT call this "The Cannonball Run 3"! This film, featuring birthday boy TIM MATHESON will only answer to the title "SPEED ZONE" Totally unrelated movies since nobody is slapping the shit out of Dom DeLuise in this one.

Farewell to the wonderful Olivia Hussey. So many students had to obtain parental permission to see your breasts briefly in order to watch Romeo And Juliet in school. Godspeed. www.npr.org/2024/12/28/n...

We end our night with CYRANO DE BERGERAC to celebrate birthday boy Gérard Depardieu. The only film in which he was nominated for an Oscar, in a role which won José Ferrer an Oscar forty years earlier. Except that Ferrer did his role in English, while Depardieu performed it in the original French.

Happy birthday, Marlene Dietrich! Lots of great movies to choose from here, but we're showing SHANGHAI EXPRESS because you also get Anna Mae Wong.
