My very, very first impression of Skrmetti is that it is as horrible as people are saying, and yet, it is a more limited horror: It does not overturn bostock, it doesn't overturn rulings saying trans discrimination = sex discrimination. Bathroom, sports, passport ruling are good under this.

Maybe I'm just a filthy amateur but I feel like if a district court tells you that your national defense policy is in violation of the law, then it isn't the district court that is setting national defense policy, it's the law thats doing that. I'm pretty sure that's how this is supposed to work.
