Has nominative determinism gone too far h/t @benjaminschneider.ch

Very excited to publicly share news about a new tool, Papercheck, that @debruine.bsky.social and me started to develop more than a year ago! In an introductory blog post, we explain our philosophy to automatically check scientific papers for best practices. daniellakens.blogspot.com/2025/06/intr...

My article has been on the front page of Hacker News all day. Some of the comments from survivors, parents, and friends of children with leukemia, are very moving news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4428...

Even if your child won't *die* from measles, you probably do not want them to get it. @scientificdiscovery.dev's latest article on the non-fatal health effects of the disease: ourworldindata.org/measles-incr...

Measles causes more than an acute illness: it suppresses immune memory and increases the risk of complications for years. Even in a typical case of measles, children who survive the infection recover slowly.

New piece by me! I wrote about how freaky measles is, which many people don't know about. It depletes immune cells, and makes people vulnerable to many other infectious diseases. This raises the risk of complications for years after an infection.

This was an incredibly interesting story about how amazing it is we now have a treatment for HIV, and the complexities of drug development. It is basically 5 episodes of an hour released at once. Extremely educational - haven't listened to anything where I learned so much in 5 hours in a while!

I'm usually not a train history enthusiast, but I loved this piece by Benedict Springbett with a history of suburban rail & metros. And how to connect up suburban rail lines with tunnels, to get a new metro system at a fraction of the cost of a completely new one!

I feel like I'm in this situation where I have talented friends that I love and respect so much that it surprises me to learn that they seem to feel the same way πŸ₯Ί blog.jacobtrefethen.com/lenacapavir/

Just read this very informative post about endometriosis β€” I just had some vague background knowledge that it existed and was probably neglected by research. Turns out it’s extremely fascinating β€” tissue similar to the uterus lining growing outside of the uterus. It has even been found *in men*

this was excellent. a highly recommended way to spend 5 hours.

i'm listening to the saloni and jacob podcast, so far what ive gathered is that an enzyme is a protein with a particularly stressful job
