Finally saw Sinners. My god what a movie!!

I have my dates set for my qualifying exams in August. Now four months to prepare!

This is partially a bad framing of what happened. Too many Senate Democrats did not “play dead.” They ACTIVELY joined with Republicans to pass this. The idea that they “played dead” gives the implication that they just allowed something to happen instead of actively helping it happen.

Headed into the weekend, a gentle reminder that this whirlwind is specifically designed to make us feel exhausted, overwhelmed, resigned, & sapped of energy, and that it is more important now than ever to connect with your community. Hug your family, check on your friends, walk in your neighborhood.

Just imagining how 21st-century headline writers would capture Americans' antebellum conflicts over slavery: "In His Steely Defense of Slavery, John C. Calhoun Throws Down the Gauntlet to Abolitionists. "Some Critics Call Him Dangerous and Undemocratic—But That's Not the Whole Story." 🗃️

I mean what’s it gonna be..this type of attitude or following Booker and Warren trying to figure out how to go viral. Seems that some Dem leadership will let it all burn down if they think Trump and the GOP will let them rule a portion of the ashes.

A president’s executive order cannot undo a law or a Supreme Court decision, let alone a provision of the Constitution. Forget that and you do have a dictatorship on day one.

Respectfully (and I genuinely mean this), I’ve never heard a single regular person ask for “bipartisanship.” That’s inside nonsense. They want things to work. If the other party refuses to work for people, be the ones who will. Fight for people. Make it plain who isn’t, and who THEY’RE for.

First day of spring semester starts with an 8 AM lecture on Monday morning for the class I am a TA for.

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers. 3/20

People can debate what Jimmy Carter's political legacy was. But his human legacy was an astoundingly positive one, worthy of deep admiration.

As the semester winds down and comes to an end, it is almost time to begin reading for my qualifying exams. Starting two independent studies in January to work through two of my fields before exams next August.

Just in time for gift-giving season, it's giveaway time! I've got some free downloads of the audiobook of Missionary Diplomacy & would love to share. Repost to enter and I'll pass along codes to the winners. And if you don't win, you can order at the link below! www.audible.com/pd/Missionar...

One week left until classes over. Then a week to finish my paper on apprenticeship cases in the Kentucky Court of Appeals right after the Civil War. And then hopefully just one more semester of classes before qualifying exams!

First semester of doctoral studies is over. Now to finish a book review I’ve had since October and then three weeks of a relaxing break!
