How many federal workers would DOGE need to fire to make up for Musk not paying his fair share of taxes? Answer: 677,000. That's 44% of the entire non-DoD federal workforce. Again, this power grab is not about the budget. It’s about politics.

Side note. There are eight members of the joint chiefs. the chair is black. the CNO (navy) is a woman. the other six are white guys. chair and the cno got fired tonight.

Go, Judge Reyes!

One of the great challenges of the coming years will be treating people who have had faces eaten by leopards with grace and kindness. Sadism and triumphalism feel great, but they don’t get shit done.

In 1964, the Civil Rights Act was passed, marking the legal end to Jim Crow in the USA. Its Title VI banned discrimination by race among any institution that receives Federal funds. On Friday, the Acting head of the Ed Dept sent out this letter to all 50 states: www.ed.gov/media/docume...

I know every is rightfully enraged at Jeff Bezos but go to the @washingtonpost.com rn and see all the good work. It is but a tiny fraction of a penny to him, but your support can save their good work. Cancel Prime instead.

I’ve always said this was a big key to Trump’s appeal: What perversely excites a lot of people is that he represents liberation from the tyranny of basic decency.

This is why you should support journalism even when the paper sometimes prints stupid or politically disagreeable articles.

A reminder: the GWBush Admin built a prison at Gitmo not because of its size or facilities, but on the theory that because it was not in the US, US laws would not apply, and because US didn't recognize Cuban sovereignty over it Cuban law didn't either. It's a stateless, lawless zone of impunity.

Look what arrived from the library! Now I know what I’m doing in my spare time for the next few weeks.

PREACH

A nuanced and informative discussion seem via Ann Leckie on some recent events. We can all be horrified about the horrible things we know this person has done without having to recast everything else he’s ever done as horrible especially if that’s not accurate.

Donations to Biden's inaugural fund in 2021: Meta = $0 Tim Cook = $0 Sam Altman = $0 Google = $200,000 Amazon = $200,000 Donations to Trump's inaugural fund in 2025: Meta = $1,000,000 Tim Cook = $1,000,000 Sam Altman = $1,000,000 Google = $1,000,000 Amazon = $1,000,000 The oligarchy is here.

This is a must-read and is also the first comprehensive post mortem I’ve read working off the vote cast data (which is the real deal) as opposed to the dubious exit polling.
