Whatever you’re writing should bring you joy. Even if it doesn’t sell. Even if it doesn’t get reviews. Even if readers don’t read it. Fucking joy. Create fearlessly. Write. Edit. Scream. Your stories are desperately clawing their way out of your brain. Welcome them to the page. #5amwritersclub

The world is poisoned. The rot is bubbling and boiling over, reeking like melting permafrost. I don't know how or when it's going to get better. But keep writing, drawing, being creative. Express yourself. Keep the light on for others to chase. It's a rare good thing that everyone needs right now.

Self care for writers: - get plenty of sleep - hydrate - hike in the woods - take the narrow path by the thicket - encounter Gorzath, the seven-horned goat and feast upon marrow from wayward stragglers - let Gorzath impart the secret word - laugh at human folly - cry into a pillow #5amwritersclub

Help! I’ve fallen down several rabbit holes researching for my novel: The rich mythology, folklore and stories of ancient Armenia. Geography. Technology. Wedding planning. #Writer

There’s something tragically beautiful about a failed writer who mutters stories while drunk in the gutter. It’s like a sad clown making shitty balloon animals at a farmer’s market. Life defeated them, yet they still create. #writing

Pre-writing is part of the writing process. It’s where you organize and plan details, where spontaneous brainstorming leads to interesting ideas. Creating art is messy and time consuming, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have your little “eureka” moments. #5amwritersclub

Write for the process, for the joy of storytelling. Write because the pent-up word gremlins inside you demand it. Feed the beast. Harness your restless urge to create, this energy for the craft and romance with the written word. In a world of failure, let that be your success. #5amwritersclub

At the planning stage of novel writing where character arcs are forged, destinies decided, and connections crafted. Coming soon: the stage where everything crumbles and my work becomes undone. #writing

My award for The Ocean Hugs Hard arrived today! If you like H.P. Lovecraft, Raymond Chandler or the New Jersey Shore then you’ll love this book. Cosmic horror brimming with 1960s nostalgia and a secret cult. #books #bookstagram #shadowsparkpublishing

Writing is an intimate act. Our innermost thoughts, feelings, and aspirations are on the page for all to read. This is both empowering and terrifying, just like being in love. Writing makes us introspective and vulnerable, and the more we write, the more we learn about ourselves. #5amwritersclub

Just a reminder that you can follow me on Goodreads and Amazon for authorly updates or to check out any new booky-book releases! #author #books

Give your characters room to breathe. Do they have trauma or crushed dreams or heartbreak? Take them bowling. Take them to a diner at 1 a.m. Describe their body language and whether they smoke. Any weird habits? Are they too guarded or shy? Make them your own. #5amwritersclub

2025 is my lost writing year. Nothing published, but I’ll spend it learning how to write. #5amwritersclub

Remembering that time in 2017 when I nearly scared my wife to death with a cardboard cutout standee of Agent Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks.

Writing a good book is everything: A book that says something about the human condition. A book that dumps all the skeletons from your closet and reveals your fears, hopes, dreams. A confession. A homespun manifesto. A love letter. A reason for your reader to be glad they’re alive. #5amwritersclub

Cruelty has replaced kindness. Ignorance has replaced wisdom. Apathy has replaced empathy. Selfishness has replaced altruism. We dance with fire not caring if we burn.

It’s better to write than let fear stop you. Fear is the dream killer. Writing is liberating and probably the last bastion of free expression. Be defiant, creative and bold. Write the thing that makes you uncomfortable, that makes readers squirm. #5amwritersclub

The latter half of Twin Peaks season 2 is a tangle of subplots and storylines: Windom Earle, Evelyn Marsh, Andrew Packard, Ben Horne’s Confederate reenactment, the Miss Twin Peaks pageant and the notorious pine weasel. All of this craziness culminates in a showdown at the Black Lodge. What a show!

The groundhog glimpsed its shadow and the shadow devoured him; inky black tendrils crunched his tiny body into a spray of blood and bone. Winter forever. #groundhogday2025

Hey, you. Yes, you! The one who writes. The storytellers and fabulists and creators of worlds. Wordsmiths and scribblers and tale spinners. Bleed that trauma onto the page. Write your desires and fears. Make every story count. Writing is your therapy in a world gone mad. #5amwritersclub

I won’t rest until an established author likes my work and recommends it on social media. #5amwritersclub

Writing can be stressful. The pressure for success, a fear of failure, depression from not connecting with readers. Don’t let this stop you. If you fail, fail brilliantly. Some word babies won’t be loved, and that’s okay. Keep writing. Hang in there, scribes. #5amwritersclub

Know how you can help your favorite indie author? Read their books. Review their books. Buy them coffee. Hug them in a tender embrace and whisper, “I enjoyed reading your profound words, you brilliant scribe.” #5amwritersclub

Writing a story about an evil stretch of road. #writing

Authors of #booksky, explain your story badly: A foot-sucking vampire makes trouble for one of his descendants who keeps bothering him.

Write the damn thing. Even if it gets no love and you feel alone and your efforts fruitless. Write the damn thing. When you write the damn thing you finish what you’ve started. Publish your weird stories and let them scamper into the world. Let them breathe. Then write the next damn thing. #writer

Villains sacrifice other people; heroes sacrifice themselves.

First day of English comp classes went well. Two sessions, 40 students total. Some enjoy writing, some don’t, while a few are indifferent. I look forward to helping them gain confidence in their writing and researching skills. Here’s to a productive and successful spring semester!✍️

All the heroes are dead and all the villains run the world.

Editing and more editing. Why can’t these words arrange themselves properly the first time? #5amwritersclub

“I knew my stuff sucked. But I needed to burn through… I needed to find what was mine, and the only way to find it is just to keep painting and keep painting and keep painting and see if you catch something.” - David Lynch “David Lynch: The Art Life” m.youtube.com/watch?v=a6sl...

Check out Dreamcaught, a new anthology dropping June 21! My story “The Noctambulist” will be included, along with tales from several Shadow Spark authors! 🌜🌝🌛

Reading can inspire you. It puts you on a path of discovery and an appreciation of storytelling. In a writing slump? Research and read topics that interest you. Fall down that rabbit hole and see where it leads. Take notes. Be curious. Love the process. #5amwritersclub

I might have found a title for the fourth book in the series…. #writing

It’s okay to take a break from writing. Thinking about writing, plotting, even daydreaming still counts as writing. #5amwritersclub

I read Sandman during its initial run and Coraline and The Ocean at the End of the Lane in grad school. Neil Gaiman was one of my favorite authors. Now I’m skeeved by his grossness and upset that he abused those women. If you read this article, SA warning. www.vulture.com/article/neil...

Write for the love of words, the love of storycraft. Write because you’ve got something to impart. Write with joy. Write with passion. Even if it’s a dumb monster story nobody will read or review. Life’s too short. Don’t let rejection or fear stifle you. Keep writing, dammit! #5amwritersclub
