The feeling of hearing Kid A for the first time—such a seismic shift from what I expected them to do—still sticks with me all these years later. That said, Mass Romantic brings me such joy on the 10th, 100th, 1000th listen that it gets my vote. Impossible for this album to wear out its welcome.

Ok I got to the end of ZERO DAY and the show is truly infuriating

Well, I can’t say I wasn’t warned

My wife and I both protested the Portman erasure during the various Lonely Island packages.

Four episodes in now, COMMON SIDE EFFECTS is one of my favorite things on TV right now.

And Then Nothing is my personal favorite album of 2000 and, alongside Mass Romantic and Furnace Room Lullaby, an album I still listen to with some regularity 25 years later. It gets my vote! (That said, Kid A is great and does not deserve the hate some folks in this tourney shovel its way.)

On one basic level there was probably no saving Captain America BNW, but I also think if it came out in, say, 2022, some of it would have hit different/better.

CAPTAIN AMERICA BNW was not as bad as I expected it to be but it was never better than just OK

Well, it’s a holiday

“Trains - now powered by AI” is not a reassuring ad campaign

OJ Simpson and who else?

Listening to the House of R podcast about Yellowjackets and realizing there’s a lot I’ve forgotten about the first two seasons. Not sure I have it in me for a full rewatch but… maybe

Cobra Kai was a fun show when it debuted but really fell apart in later seasons and just became a lame teen show. Literally every character found redemption—so many that by the time they reached the finale, characters were basically shrugging because there was no where left for their arcs to go.

Fargo was the best thing Hamm has done since Mad Men

Really enjoying COMMON SIDE EFFECTS (Max/Adult Swim) - a dumb, deadpan cartoon thriller from Mike Judge and one of the guys who made SCAVENGERS REIGN. It is weirdly exactly what you might expect from those two people working together?

Mostly tuning in to PARADISE every week to see what terrible cover they subject us to in the last five minutes

Halftime over, back to watching the game.

That commercial was awful But shout-out to Eddy Arnold’s “Cattle Call” youtu.be/eHsy06DPZVg?...

What I needed is the homie @siddharthamitter.bsky.social on Alice Coltrane. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/07/a...

If you missed it (or if you didn’t), this is a great look at the ENERGY FIELDS exhibition curated by @rtaka.bsky.social & @room40.bsky.social for @fulcrumarts.bsky.social Alba Triana’s work in this show was the best thing I saw in all of PST.

Couple episodes in I think I am on board for an unambiguous Hate Watch of this show. I haven’t seen a show this clumsy and stupid in a long time.

LA East siders that need space to work due to the fires:

Ok I watched the first episode of PARADISE. This show is created by the guy who created THIS IS US and if you watched Sterling K Brown give his heartfelt monologue toward the end of the episode, you’d know that already. Kinda hilarious to apply those TiU monologues to a LOST-like mystery box show.

I’ve been revisiting some of my favorite albums from the 60s and was reminded today of how truly *excellent* The Maytals’ SWEET & DANDY is. Monkey Man, Pressure Drop, and the title track are all unimpeachable. youtu.be/cbuhKOmlUOs?...

After years/decades listening to and loving all of Neko’s albums, I think FRL has settled into its spot as my very favorite.

I may be mindlessly binging Night Agent but at least I’m not watching the Grammys

Ok ok, I admit I have a hard time not watching shows all the way to the end. Night Agent is a quintessential binge show—compelling you to “watch next episode” but also constantly re-explaining what’s going on because it knows you’re not giving it your full attention.

I seem to recall the first season of Night Agent was kinda dumb but still enjoyable. Two eps into the new season it’s definitely dumb but so far not very enjoyable.

My favorite shows of January, roughly in order: Severance The Agency The Pitt The Traitors Abbott Elementary Decent, not great: American Primeval, Bookie, St Denis Medical Trash: Lockerbie

I watched some of the Oscar noms for documentary shorts today. Highly recommend as a double feature watching THE ONLY GIRL IN THE ORCHESTRA (Netflix) followed by INSTRUMENTS OF A BEATING HEART (YouTube). They go perfectly well together.
