Thanks to CBC books for selecting When the Pine Needles Fall, Ellen Gabriel and my's new book, for their list of "30 buzzworthy Canadian titles" to read this winter: www.cbc.ca/books/30-can...

Ottawa folks (and those able to join remotely), don’t miss this special lecture and conversation!

ICYMI: @niigaanwewidam.bsky.social and I have a new piece for The Canadian Encyclopedia assessing the colonial legacy of John A. Macdonald. We argue he should be remembered as a nation builder and a nation destroyer: www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/j...

Excited to share the (beautiful!) cover of the French edition When the Pine Needles Fall, which is available in Canada February 25 and internationally March 7: www.editions-rm.ca/livres/quand...

Excited to be one of this year’s CBC Nonfiction Prize readers. Get your submissions in by March 1! www.cbc.ca/books/litera...

The Canadian Historical Association is now on Bluesky. Give them a follow.

The Canadian Encyclopedia asked @niigaanwewidam.bsky.social and I to help set the record straight on the legacy of John A. Macdonald. Rather than unapologetically celebrate Macdonald, we argue he should be remembered, not exalted or emulated: www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/j...

ICYMI: Ellen Gabriel was featured in a special episode of APTN’s Face to Face about our new book, When the Pine Needles Fall, what’s changed since the 1990 Mohawk Resistance, and Ellen’s continued love for the land and hope for the decolonial future: www.aptnnews.ca/facetoface/e...

This summer will mark the 35th anniversary of Canada’s violent siege of Kanehsatà:ke and Kahnawà:ke – commonly called the Oka Crisis. Ellen Gabriel became a spokesperson for her community that summer and says it’s time to reclaim the narrative.

Excited to share that When the Pine Needles Fall has been shortlisted for the Wilson Institute for Canadian History’s Book Prize. Ellen and are grateful for all the support for this book. Thank you!

In these times of fear and uncertainty, I’m grateful to @thebreach.bsky.social for profiling part of Ellen Gabriel’s final conversation from When the Pine Needles Fall. Be inspired by Ellen’s love for the land and hope for the decolonial future: breachmedia.ca/ellen-gabrie...

“It must have been a mistake, right? A misinterpretation! There must be an explanation for such a repulsive gesture… Maybe it’s because he’s on the spectrum! Because he’s immune to social cues he’s unaware of the history. That must be it!”

When the Pine Needles Fall is back on the Winnipeg Bestsellers list. The Canada Reads Longlist bump is real. Thanks to @mcnallyrobinson.com and Winnipeggers for your ongoing support!
