The most likely outcome of the cuts to publicly funded US science infrastructure is not a US brain drain but the capture of research power by a small number of companies and the resultant privatisation of knowledge

We're hiring a Full Professor of Computational Neuroscience in Bristol!!!! (...... or Data Science, AI, Digital Health etc). Come join us in a vibrant city and thriving place for neuroscience and AI research. Please share :-)

Some politicians are labeled as "all tactics, no strategy" imo neuroscience is "all hypotheses, no theory" In this sense, I disagree with the article. All neuroscientists do is test hypotheses! It's just that these are typically based on vague mental theories, rather than formal maths theories

Urgent lessons here for Irish higher education - let's not make this same mistake.

🚨Excited to share my first @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social🚨 with the amazing Smith lab, @jbarbosa.org and Albert Compte who made this work possible. We show that 🐒prefrontal hemispheres combine redundancy (for precision) & weak connections (for capacity) for supporting spatial working memory (WM). 1/🧵

It’s an incredible feeling to see something you’ve poured your heart into come to life. This work was born from my curiosity about hippocampal “cognitive tuning.” Our interpretation of the environment depends on our actions, constantly evolving as we pursue our goals www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Eleanor Maguire, who died 4 January at age 54, pioneered the famous London taxi-driver study and naturalistic approaches for studying spatial and episodic memory in people. By @callimcflurry.bsky.social www.thetransmitter.org/memory/remem...

Can we update our university rankings to rank based on creative thinking time?

Psilocybin slows and reduces complexity of neural dynamics in medial prefrontal cortex. New paper with Ross Purple, Rahul Gupta, Matt Jones & Co.

DAY 14: Advent of Comp Neuro 🎄🤖🧠🧪 Neurotransmitter expression is very different throughout the cortex, and those differences are aligned with the hierarchy! “Gradients of neurotransmitter receptor expression in the macaque cortex” By @seanfw.bsky.social et al www.nature.com/articles/s41...

What a great example of using empirical connectivity data to constrain RNNs -- reproduces some known features while making new (experimentally testable) predictions | www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

I feel this is a big step forward from our previous work modeling cortex-wide activity during cognition. We provide candidate mechanisms for various 1) representations, 2) dynamics, 3) gating mechanisms and 4) competition within and across the default mode, frontoparietal, dorsal attention networks

I am excited to share the last work of my postdoc as a Swartz Fellow at NYU on the dynamic routing of large-scale cognitive networks in the neocortex! 🌐🧠 Here's a quick breakdown: 🧵 preprint: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Help bluesky neurohivemind! If you know of any computational / theoretical work modelling neuromodulators please share it 🙏 if you don't, please retweet!

Happy to see three computational neuroscience awards among the ERC Consolidator grants announced today, and even more impressively 3/3 are women: @clopathlab.bsky.social, @gjorjulijana.bsky.social and Alex Cayco-Gajic All top researchers, delighted for them. Congrats erc.europa.eu/sites/defaul...

Deeply honoured to receive an #ERCCoG ERC Consolidator Grant to explore the Dynamics of Attribute Weighting in Multiattribute Choice. Grateful to my amazing ERC StG team: @ycaoneuro.bsky.social, @marcussiems.bsky.social , Maryam Tohidi, Molly Stapleton for their support and trust. 🙏@ERC_Research

Neuroscientists often collect whole-brain gene expression cell count data. But its hard work and expensive, so the datasets usually have n~10 animals for maybe ~100 brain regions. Bad regime for trad stats! We developed a better Bayesian method for these data: elifesciences.org/reviewed-pre... 1/6
