Q: You said you would end the Ukraine war in 24 hours. You've now been in office for 5 months. Why have you not been able to end the Ukraine war? TRUMP: Because it's more difficult than people would have any idea.

"To drive along this highway is to make a pilgrimage through the South, its history and its legends."

The FBI ditches Miller’s deportation crackdown to pivot back to counterterrorism.

"Learn to code" was always bad advice, unless you actually like to code. College students have the best chance of professional success if they major in topics that interest them. Today in @startribune.com. Please tell high school students and parents. www.startribune.com/what-should-...

This Day in Labor History: June 25, 1938. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the Fair Labor Standards Act. Let's talk about this groundbreaking law creating dignified work in America. It was flawed, like every piece of legislation in American history, but it moved justice forward a lot!

The man who killed and wounded Democratic lawmakers in Minnesota was radicalised by evangelical Christianity.

“Khamenei and the IRGC have lost. The regional status quo they established is finished.”

The Islamic Republic itself cut off Iran’s Internet. Spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani says it’s a “temporary” move. This is standard regime procedure when it’s facing dissent on the streets, to prevent organisation.

Trump threatens to use “heavy force” against anyone who protests his military parade this weekend, and note that he makes no exception for peaceful protesters

Earlier this year I wrote about Stephen Miller's whole deal—how his privileged upbringing in Santa Monica was shaped from the beginning by the labor of Latin American immigrants, and how he experienced status anxiety when his family had to live among them. www.thenation.com/article/poli...

Elon Musk doesn’t appear to be going anywhere — and according to federal workers, DOGE has been busier than ever: www.wired.com/story/doge-e...

An interesting piece on how Norway has now gone over 90% electric on new car sales, achieved through government incentives that ironically were easily affordable in part due to its massive sovereign wealth fund built off fossil fuel profits: wapo.st/4mDXhL6 [gift link]

My podcast is more rigorously cited than the MAHA report. And I went to the University of Phoenix.

“Musk’s tenure in politics also bruised his public image”. *Lols to infinity*

Trump—who dodged Vietnam—booted a ceremony honoring Vietnam Veterans from the National Mall… for his birthday spectacle. Instead of showing up for the military, he's making them show up for him. A man who never served, hijacking a moment meant for those who did.

The Free Speech Administration throwing down arguably the biggest sledgehammer against free thought and association in my lifetime.

Interesting rundown of the legal questions surrounding ICE kidnapping people while in plain clothes with facial coverings, including a note that officers are carrying blank administrative warrants to fill out AFTER arrests.

In remarks to a private audience in 2023, Russell Vought, who is Trump’s budget chief and the intellectual force behind Trump’s unprecedented power grab, said he championed the term “invasion” because it “unlocked” extraordinary presidential powers. By @mtredden.bsky.social‬

Narrator: he didn’t

The Washington Post wants us to stop focusing on the real damage Musk is causing and to refocus on the empty promises he’s been churning out for gullible idiots for over a decade now.

This guy is like one of 4 Americans who actually went and got their REAL ID and immediately they said it was a fake. Just so everyone knows when they toss your ass in a truck it won't matter what passport or identification you have they'll throw it in the street and you're gone

Pete Hegseth, beset by leaks, clamps down on press inside Pentagon

Trump is claiming tariff power that he does not have, insisting the US faces an emergency. A trade deficit is not an emergency. And Apple manufacturing iPhones in China or India is not an emergency. He’s threatening to take illegal action.

everything means the opposite for these people. freedom means your freedom to obey. the first amendment means their freedom to tell you what you can read and think.

This is why Putin is not interested in any talks

If I’m a foreign government right now—the one lesson that I’ve learned at this point is that there is no durable agreement to be made with this administration. Any assurance, policy, or deal will be arbitrarily annulled by a random 3 am post. No point in expending energy negotiating with this.

Hopefully people do understand the importance. A boycott with an end date does nothing but absorb energy from potential effective boycotts. Those in Montgomery didn’t abstain from riding the bus for 6 days, they went until their demand was met. That is the purpose of a boycott.

The entire sales tax system is based on the penny. Raising it to be based on the nickel is a massive tax hike on the majority of the population.

Tell me: if these dudes show up with guns in an unmarked van to grab someone, why don’t the Second Amendment fans think they should be shot?

Phang: It’s time for federal judges to acknowledge that they have lifetime appointments—and that should give them the courage to uphold the rule of law, but also to put some damn teeth into the court orders they’re issuing. it’s time that we start seeing action from the judiciary. Grow some balls

How did John Fetterman become "Trump's favorite Democrat"? A staffer who worked for Fetterman on both the campaign and in Congress tells @abbyvesoulis.bsky.social it was the Israel-Hamas war that broke the senator, leaving his positions “clouded through a fuck-the-opposition-left” mindset.

I feel like re-upping this story right now because it went drastically under-reported and under-appreciated when it first came out. This study should be on the tip of every university scholar's tongue to share with their non-academic friends and family: www.npr.org/2025/05/06/n...

Belgium’s future queen caught up in Harvard foreign student ban

State and Homeland Security are arguing that Trump v Hawaii—the Muslim ban case—means they can deport foreign students on the basis of political viewpoint. If there are any foreign students left next year, they’ll be too terrified to speak—which is presumably the idea. www.law360.com/articles/234...

"The Trump Administration will root out the evils of anti-Americanism". "It is a privilege to employ aliens on campus ... You have lost this privilege". "Let this serve as a warning to all universities". The language here is as chilling as the actions being taken.

"Academic freedom-the ability to pursue the truth wherever it might lead, and to make publicly available what one believes is true ...[is] not the arcane privilege of an... intellectual guild, but a prerogative essential to the functioning of our Republic and the education of its citizenry." 💯
