SALFORD!

There’s always a Twist at the end! #gally

If I'd had a solid night of uninterrupted sleep I think I could have escaped this jetlag. Unfortunately I have cats so this jetlag is kicking my arse instead.

It says something about EON's grasp on the Bond films that everything that follows will feel like Never Say Never Again. Films that undeniably exist but don't feel *real*.

Okay Amazon ruining Bond and killing Neighbours in the same day? Fuck this timeline.

Journalists should report the truth the way this judge laid it out.

Things I could do without seeing before getting on a plane at LAX.

This book is bloody wonderful. Get yourself one. It’s exactly what good, well researched, socially sharp pop cultural analysis should be. Way better than simple nostalgia, but with warm recognition and a love of popular art cushioning and contextualising the tough politics.

“Keep pouring, Ann. You’re not gonna BELIEVE what your dog did today.”

Real alchemy.

For my first #gally1 we sold out of Paradise Towers Vol. 1, pulled the trigger on Vol. 2 production, had a lovely chat with Katy about our Iris Wildthyme comic, went to the last bookstore with Paul and Jeremy, and then went to Santa Monica with Sutekh.

What if... Gerry and Sylvia Anderson produced Coronation Street?

To prove that all Sean's that spell their name correctly are the best, all praise to the other Sean at #galley1 with the magic drink that doesn't give hangovers.

Hi #galley1 I would love more ribbons especially if they are Paradise Towers related but I'm stuck at the @cutawaycomics.bsky.social table! Please come say hi! #gallifreyone @gallifreyone.bsky.social

Quite surprised to learn there is an ok amount of cocaine you can have before driving.

Brianna Keilar: Do you think that calling Elon Musk a dick is effective messaging? Congressman Robert Garcia: Well, he is a dick.

I value my arsehole too much to even joke about using this as toilet paper.

Just arrived in LA for #gally1! Build high for happiness with Cutaway Comics Paradise Towers GNs and audios. Plus some other stuff...

Such good points here.

Say NO to AI in comics

Was listening to an interview with Richard Seymour this weekend and he was asked if he thought technology inherently leans right and he said "it leans stupid which leans right"

It's...not countering if....it's....the same stuff.

I’m seeing a lot of soft takes from industry mutuals at the moment that we shouldn’t be so hard on those who use generative AI because it’s becoming harder and harder to resist. Wrong. Betraying your ethics (and your peers) because ‘everyone else is doing it’ does not suddenly make it acceptable.

Do we do the superb owl joke here or do we have new ones?

Tomorrow at 4pm on BBC Radio 4x, the Fear on Four adaptation of my story By the River, Fontainebleau. A painter’s obsession over a young country girl shades into something more disturbing. Introduction by @tobyhadoke.bsky.social

Guess this place has a thing for Bond villains.

This is the hardest I’ve laughed in a long time.

One year at the Edinburgh Fringe, I was stuck in my room at the flat I was staying in while my host had a massive break up argument with her boyfriend right outside my door. And I’m just worried the next generation of comedy performers will be priced out of brilliant Fringe experiences like that.

Now more than ever.

Still going through old notebooks (30 odd years of them). I've entered my "teenager writing political thrillers" years and concerns include: Return of far right across Europe. Break up of EU nations. Bird Flu pandemic. Not sure if this made me very insightful or if this is all somehow my fault?
