I, for one, think the median congressional Democrat should be to the left of David Brooks. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/17/o...

We are overabundant with themes for protest signs. This one is the most important by far.

Breaking news: The European Commission is issuing burner phones and basic laptops to some US-bound staff to avoid the risk of espionage — a measure traditionally reserved for trips to China www.ft.com/content/20d0...

Comment about 1984 Re-Read. At least we don’t have Govt. 2-way TV yet. But social media cleansing is a thing.

Old enough to remember when big box bookstores (like Barnes & Noble) were only in Boston and/or enemy to indies & and now they are good vs AMZN. @sarahkendzior.bsky.social ā€˜s latest is out of stock at my local B&N. Not sure if that’s good (big demand) or bad (low orders in the Texas ā€˜burbs).

Kilmar Abrego GarcĆa is coming home.

Couple of stock market learnings the past 48 hours. Your mileage may vary: 1) My confidence in equities was guarded since 1/20. My confidence now is zero. 2) My confidence in Full Faith & Credit of US was guarded since 1/20. Confidence level up a bit after regime freaked out over T bond yields.

Getting ready to reread 1984 for the first time since well before 1974. & recalling how safe I felt the book’s premise in 1984. & how the Apple super-bowl ad that year was freaking brilliant (to those of us in computer marketing at the time) and yet very much dystopian fiction. Even during Reagan.

Just to be clear, this post earlier is now a crime šŸ‘‡

A great skeet

This. We live in dangerous times.

The next #fiftyfiftyone nationwide protest is Saturday, April 19th. Spread the word. Get organized. Get prepared. There were nearly 5 million people in attendance across the country at yesterday’s protests. Let’s double… no… TRIPLE that. ā€œThe People, united, will never be defeatedā€ āœŠšŸ» #resist

There goes PBakerNYT again concern trolling. My article on this topic: Trump wants a 3d term. If the Constitution stands, he can’t fuckjng have it. The end. -30-

#handsoff protest in Austin had great turnout and spicy speakers! Lets do it again soon.

Had to block or ā€œSTOPā€ texts from ā€œJames Carvilleā€ 2 times in the past 48 hours. Frankly, I am insulted that as a boomer I’m supposed to all in on 1990s pundit (& I can’t understand a G-D word the man says). STOP already. My Dad (b 1930, deceased) was the one with a Clinton shrine in his guestroom.

Someone asked me recently should they invest in Dell? My honest answer: No idea. Been there, done that, from the IPO in 1987 to the time it went private (early 2010s?) — before going public again. But OMG, down 15% or more in the past couple days. Interesting times. I trust Michael, though, always.

Last year we went on an international-guest African photo safari lead by a pro photographer who is the partner of a friend. Wonderful trip! This year we were honored to be asked back. So sad we feel we have to decline because of our distrust of what our own country is doing to Africa and the world.

To CNBC’s actual credit this morning, they are reporting that so-called ā€œreciprocalā€ tariff rates Trump claims other countries charge us… are way above tariff rates other countries charge us. The so called % is a no. reflecting Trade Deficit from that country. 1/2

No matter how bad the markets are, the open has cowbells and a cheering section. Gotta admire their… spirit?

I just told my husband I could feed us for 6 months out of the pantry. More to backpacking standards than Cordon Blue. But, I have been food insecure (decades ago in grad school) and am worried about people in that situation. Being in a grad school food desert with no $ was unfun. This is worse.

Just noticed that a huge account posted this, uncredited, this afternoon with a very minor caption edit. Original caption was snappier. So I guess I will post the underdog entry again with source trail. Sigh.

Everyone should read this powerful clarion call. And the entire Bar--especially major GOP-associated firms--should now step up and join Paul Clement, et al. (and Cooley and Williams & Connolly) in their powerful indictment of an unprecedented abuse of power. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Walking a few miles a day (for bones, knee replacement therapy, and self fat-ass minimization) is easier with a good audiobook. Today’s is #Autocracy,Inc. by #AnneApplebaum. Probably will last through the week!
