the role of fossil capital in the rise of the far right in the US - and its consequences - are difficult to keep track of given the sheer pace of change. still, we should.

And they're pulling an accounting trick so that $1.5 TRILLION dollars of the final budget doesn’t count against the debt ceiling. I'm sure it's perfectly okay and sane to try and hide $1.5 trillion dollars in debt, right? No consequences for that, I’m sure? www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...

this is a good post and "decadence" is a good way to think about a lot of things. true decadence is, eg, thinking you could let an insurrection go unpunished and the country would just keep chugging along nbd

Every so often, it just comes back to me in full force. The political and economic order that allowed this man to come to power is obviously no longer tenable. The leaders who let it happen obviously have to be replaced. This is an epoch defining failure and we have to turn the page completely.

You can tell by the contempt they show these public servants that they enjoy every minute. That they have no idea what kind of damage they’ve caused is part of the thrill. They don’t have to know, and they don’t have to care. All that matters is that you lost their game. archive.is/oQTQv

And that’s exactly why the right wants to capture them and purge them. We must protect these institutions as if it’s the last stand. Once they’re gone, we will never be able to as much of the record back that we have now. And what we have now is only partial!

Booker’s filibuster may have been a shot in the arm. Using every procedural technique to slow this stuff down is the least we can expect of the minority party. Annoying that it’s taken them this long to shake out of the stupor, but now that we’re here, let’s fuckin’ go!!!

Unambiguously a war crime, but what’s new? Just an unending parade of dead bodies that will never, ever end under the logic of Zionism. Israelis are divided on the IDF’s actions and Netanyahu, but once a country is at war, democracy is the first thing to go. They have spun out far beyond debate.

The future is a web of branching paths, and each choice opens up new possibilities as it closes others. This is as true for a civilization as it is for an individual. The more our collective intelligence can inform each choice, the better our chances of finding paths through to a beautiful future.
