The fact that “areas I control” amounts to somebody’s spare storage room, a concrete basement, and a pile of rocks and gravel. I could create a space, in theory, with dirt and an egg container or water bottle… but I’m rarely anywhere near it to water or care for a plant.

Explain your @ Long ago, I wanted to come up with a name that would give the same cozy vibes I grew up with: something unique, but familiar at the same time. That’s how I got “Heidlman” for a surname. “Selene” was because I wanted a name that fit well with my irl initials.

Having read the pre-release version of The Dragon Next Door, I will happily vouch for Ness’ writing skills on this front: even under light revision, her work is outstanding, clear and grounded, yet flowing sufficiently to create the kinds of narratives we need in today’s world.
