Bob Dylan-d myself (optimistically left the house wearing a jacket far too flimsy for this time of the year)

Absolutely horrible

Mike Amesbury getting a prison sentence is crackers & so frustrating. Less than a week since a report from the Sentencing Review specifically about the mess created by an overly politicised (‘tough on crime’) justice system. Prisons at 99.1% capacity. Not surprised his solicitor was so shocked.

Avebury Series II, 1973 by Derek Jarman

‘M&S is goated when train snacks are the vibe’ You bolt awake in the mountains of Carthage. You are not eating a biscuit. It is 217 BC. You are the general Hannibal, and you have changed your mind. The future cannot come to pass. Rome must burn.

My Dad joined NHS Direct from ICU in the late 90s. They were all experienced clinicians with diverse backgrounds and knowledge, importantly skilled in history taking and triage. Calls began and ended with them with advice or actions. 111's '20 questions and good luck' doesn't compare. So sad.

“The coroner also criticised NHS 111 for “misleading” the public by calling its call handlers “health advisers”. This title, she said, “implies professionalism which is untrue given their underlying skills and unsubstantiated given it is their role to complete an algorithm”.”

Putting my worries into perspective by reflecting that at least I am *not* the flustered woman I watched spill four litres of milk all over the floor of the ladies’ toilets at Oxford station this morning

Nobody tells you when you first start rowing that there will be so much talk about feet

Positive @davidgauke.bsky.social led review will confront 'penal populism' - longer & longer sentences, doing less & less good. Better sentencing = less crime. That's the goal. Not the political sugar rush of ramping up sentences every time there's a row. www.theguardian.com/law/2025/feb...

The prison population stands at 87,094. There are 153 more people in prison than there were last week. By the prison service's own measure of safe and decent accommodation, there is room for only 79,428 people in the system. The population is 7,666 above this level. howardleague.org/prison-watch/

Big Suze? Big Suze at the far-right conference?

Mike Leigh…greatest living British director?

Small/local story but pretty shocking one re: state of some new build developments and resources of social housing providers (or lack thereof). So grim for residents www.bristolworld.com/news/bristol...

Everyone should read this. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

If you cannot make a safe return journey but bike (eg because it's dark) you're not going to do the trip by bike. This is about equality and affects children and the elderly also

A really harrowing report. Women in prison are driven into misery & shame by failure to provide the most basic dignities: not clothed properly, *one third* unable to receive face-to-face visits (ie unable to see kids). Untrammelled punishment - how is anyone supposed to be rehabilitated by this?

“Taylor says he likes to reframe the issue by asking people: given that almost every prisoner will be released at some point, what do you want them to be like when they come out?” www.politicshome.com/thehouse/art...

Every time I look at the recall figures I can hardly believe my eyes. This is a scandal which leads to people cycling round and round the justice system (and in and out of our full-to-bursting prisons), and which by its nature prevents them getting the help so many of them need. Time for action!

NEW: A coroner has warned the government about the social housing shortage following the death of a man who took his own life after an eviction left him homeless, which left him separated from his family and living in a vehicle By me for Inside Housing (£, 🧵) www.insidehousing.co.uk/news/social-...

This series is excellent. Chilling and tragic. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand...

A few years ago I saw some tabloid/clickbait claiming the ‘most likely’ place for ISIS to set up its first UK stronghold would be the island of Lundy and have always thought this would make such a good sitcom

Really really interesting

Pro-job losses specifically for the people who design water fountains for railway stations

Not the first series - the second!! TV is in such a shocking state

This is a ridiculous article. In particular, a sitting Labour MP giving credence to this sort of conspiratorial thinking is really not on. www.thesun.co.uk/news/3299489...

After watching this series I think we might’ve tipped over the edge of peak Traitors - sorry Rachel Reeves, now is the time of decline

Really enhances Birmingham New Street’s whole ~thing~ that there currently appear to be Scientology recruitment posters on every platform

One of the worst things about trump II is how normal it feels, i think; not horror but an absence of hope

Read that awful, awful Neil Gaiman piece yesterday and have been thinking about it ever since. Have also been thinking about the terrible case of Kiena Dawes: justice for victims of abuse is still far too hard to achieve. www.bbc.com/news/article...
