At this juncture I’d like to point out: * we’re on the brink of a golden age of medical healing * there’s enough money in the world to solve every problem in the world * a united approach could stop the climate crisis But a small group of sociopaths seeking personal power are going to throw it away.

Arguably my finest work

Thinking about the destruction of the NEH: the right is happy for people to study texts and ideas as long as the outcomes of that study is predetermined. This is why the right-wing loves and funds civic leadership institutes on college campuses devoted to the study of 'fundamental' texts and ideas.

Its not just skipping the humanities, ethics and the arts: they are taught that those ways of seeing the world and understanding it are inferior and useless. Ive seen way too many CS students laugh at these fields. They are taught that their way of seeing the world is not only superior, but complete

The changes wrought by Generative AI are not just some inevitable technological advance but a deliberate choice being made for us that we ought to and can have a say in influencing. Part 1 of a 2-part banger of a podcast by my favorite sound duo. soundcloud.com/worldaccordi...

That’s one hell of an exit line.

It’s a problem that this bigoted dude has the most successful history podcast in the English language. It’s a problem that a huge percentage of his listeners are people who would disagree with Holland on everything, but find entertaining his storytelling.

Journalists keep asking me why the government would want to end scientific and medical research at universities, and it seems clear to me that insofar as anyone around the White House wants that research to still happen in this country they would prefer it happen in the for-profit private sector

One of the worst effects of successive govts' rhetoric on Higher Ed is that it's 'training for a job'. So 18yos get themselves (and are pressured) onto narrow technical courses. Yet employers are crying out for ppl who can read, think, write, speak! I've never met an employer who said different.

You want the truth about writing with em-dashes? You can't handle the truth!
