This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source. Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.

my view is that as soon as the administration froze disbursement of congressional appropriations we entered constitutional crisis territory

Haven't read this piece yet due to paywall, but honestly can't get past the graphic below, which NYT usually does so well. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/03/o...

I don't care how good you think your technology is. When someone offers $100B, you sell.

Smol tip from an elected. As a general rule we do not like to be on the wrong side of our constituents. Some are absolutely so removed that calls never filter up to them, but the vast majority of even the top level do pay attention when their staff are getting buried in angry calls. It works.

Had a similar conversation with a friend on why there are so many liquor stores in the 'hood. I suggested that rich neighborhoods have liquor stores as well, but they also sell food and are usually called "grocery stores."

Just had a thought: the difference between a "food desert" and a "car dependent neighborhood" is the income of the residents. Both are food deserts (there are no supermarkets, etc) one just has enough ppl with cars for it to not matter.

NEW — OMB temporarily pauses all agency grants and loans programs. Per copy of memo: "The use of Federal resources to advance Marxist equity, transgenderism, and green new deal social engineering policies is a waste of taxpayer dollars that does not improve the day-to-day lives of those we serve."

PRO TIP: You don’t owe it to anyone to spend the next few years doomscrolling and spiraling into existential doom. Mute words. Unfollow accounts. Focus on local causes. Read books you’ve been meaning to get to. Find ways to be productive and generous. Control what you can control.

An extant generational divide is mimicking how to pick up a phone. But the new divide I've learned from my kids is how you approach someone who wants to show you something. Walking up behind me to see something on my phone is triggering to people of a certain age.

I don’t know anything about teaching high school but if I was ever in that realm I’d maybe like to teach a class on how to think. That’s probably too aggressive so maybe just call it “things.” We’d discuss things and learn how to think about them.

My Co-founder Josh Weinsch took this photo of his little daughter’s bike, which was in their driveway when they evacuated. Their neighborhood was vaporized.

Discussing jazz styles of Radiohead with Son2 and now I want to hear them cover Chicago’s “Does anybody really know what time it is?@

Why have I only now discovered the genre of jazz Radiohead covers ?

Getting Son1 to submit his college applications felt like a lot of work, even for me, but then I had to submit the FAFSA and CSS and boy howdy.

I’m not saying he was the wrong hire, but that’s the sort of thing you’d say if you’re the wrong hire.

Looking for ManningCast tonight to find out they’re off week 17, just like old times.

The demise of the ESPN brand into a betting app is really sad.

The main argument for a Strategic BItcoin Reserve seems to be that Bitcoin holders worry about an impending shortage of greater fools and need the US government to act as the greatest fool of last resort.

The people of Maypearl trusted Police Chief Kevin Coffey. Few were aware that Maypearl was the eighth law enforcement agency that Coffey had worked at in 11 years. And none could have predicted the destruction he would wreak in their town.

The new Range Rover looks like it’s trying to wear the clothes it wore when it was the old Range Rover.

I cannot begin to comprehend people who sit in their car at the office parking garage with the engine running during their lunch break.

“But most disturbing is that no watchdogs are found among the scientists themselves. It is remarkable that nearly every scientist in genetics research is also engaged in the commerce of biotechnology. There are no detached observers. Everybody has a stake.”

You may not understand why, but the healthcare insurance and PBM contracts YOU have signed for Tesla, SpaceX , @X, along with CEOs of other big companies , have more impact on healthcare costs and quality of care in this country, than anything you can do with DOGE
