Prez Trump the First tried, in his own way, to be "presidential." Trump the Second is all in on what he is, a real estate mogul. He's determined to drive up America's "property values" using every trick in the developer playbook. www.nbcwashington.com/news/preside...

I’m mostly fueled by spite and caffeine these days. Heaps of spite.

One of Trump’s first executive actions puts thousands of federal workers who call Virginia home directly in harm’s way — threatening their jobs and our economy in the pursuit of sheer political power. Lawmakers should be focused on creating jobs — not creating chaos.

So here's the plan. Flood the zone with inflammatory, and eminently challengeable, executive orders that draw 95%of the attention (and oxygen), then slip in a couple of boring ones targeted at making the billionaires richer which will proceed uncovered.

"(Democrats) still treat attention as something the media controls rather than as something they have to fight for themselves." Great line Ezra. Trump Barely Won the Popular Vote. Why Doesn’t It Feel That Way? www.nytimes.com/2025/01/19/o...

Enlightening. Gives me some sympathetic understanding of Andreesen's Trump conversion. Not agreement mind you, but sympathy. How Democrats Drove Silicon Valley Into Trump’s Arms www.nytimes.com/2025/01/17/o...

Here’s what I believe: if you work hard and play by the rules, you’ve earned a secure retirement. This week, President Biden signed my bipartisan bill to make sure more than 50,000 Virginians — police officers, firefighters, and federal employees — finally receive their earned benefits.

"Today...President Biden will sign into law U.S. Representative @SpanbergerForVA’s bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act to finally fix a 40-plus-year injustice for more than 50,000 Virginians and nearly 2.5 million Americans across the country." bluevirginia.us/2025/01/sund...

Starting this Sunday strong with Kannan Srinivasan and JJ Singh in Loudoun County ahead of a critical special election this Tuesday!

Abigail supporting the candacies of J J Singh and K Srinivasan for Tuesday's special elections in Loudon County, VA.

I roll my eyes when someone says intelligence should not be political. I agree that it should not be cherry picked and politicized. Intelligence informs decision making, and the "deciders" are politicians. It's a fine line between political and politicized. www.theatlantic.com/internationa...

ICYMI: "Senate averts shutdown, passes Spanberger's Social Security reforms" More than 50,000 Virginians will finally receive the benefits they've earned. By eliminating WEP and GPO, we are standing with the men and women who've served our communities. richmond.com/news/state-r...

Proud to serve Virginia alongside my friend and colleague Jennifer Wexton. There is no greater example of courage and determination in the entire Congress. She represents the best of our Commonwealth. apnews.com/article/abig...

Fun fact: only about a third of crop farm workers are US citizens www.ers.usda.gov/topics/farm-...

The Dems are asking for 10B, the Republicans 12B, but 2B would come from the IRA. However, GOP fiscal hawks want cuts, so the Repubs can't pass without Dem support. Nobody wants anyone else to get credit and much needed aid, both farm and disaster, is in Limbo. www.farmprogress.com/farm-policy/...

"Old" news, from August, but very relevant to the upcoming VA governor's race. When ag land prices go up this much, this fast, working farmers can't keep up. They end up selling. Then only the rich, or the corporations can afford prime agricultural land. cvillerightnow.com/news/208802-...

This matches my experience with finding farm help. “It is a stretch to think that if you start deporting undocumented labor, rural people who are hanging out in town are going to step in and fill those jobs, or people are going to move back to the countryside." www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Next time someone says to me that government should be run like a business I will say: "Tesla spends around $4 billion each year on research and development. The IRS get around $300,000 to spend on business systems modernization." www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

I wish the Federal Government (or Democratic Party) could be as strategic as the Koch Brothers. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

The second question in influence operations "How does the target audience consume information? You can't deliver your message (first question) if you don't have the right vector. Unfortunately, I've watched as we answer the question, and the response from leadership is, "Oh, that too hard."

Quite of the day from outgoing Secretary of Agriculture. "I think the challenge that (Democrats) have in rural America is that we talk a lot about programs and not about Vision." www.politico.com/news/magazin...

The mantra I live by as an analyst: tell me what you know, tell me what you don't know, tell me what you think, and always be careful to distinguish between the three (thank you GEN Powell). In the age of the "click" I feel we've forgotten this. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Stephen Hawkins and Daniel Yudkin conducted a large survey after the 2024 election. “Americans overwhelmingly—but, it turns out, mistakenly—believe that Democrats care more about advancing progressive social issues than widely shared economic ones,” they write.

No no no this can't be right I was assured that Trump would pursue a foreign policy of restraint. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

I think DOGE will focus on non-DOD efficiency, but this is still a good breakdown of Musk's efficiency process. The challenge for such a process is that the many/most onerous requirements are set by Congress. Will Trump expend capital to fix what Musk says is broken? search.app?link=https%3...

From regulatory exemptions for CAFOs to subsidies for industrial operations, U.S. public policy helped create the factory farm mess. Different policy choices can help get us out of it. @foodandwater.bsky.social www.foodandwaterwatch.org/2024/11/22/p...

Fun facts for my fellow Virginia voters and activists. Virginia’s top five export markets in 2022 were China, Canada, Venezuela, Taiwan, and Egypt. China imported more than $1.45 billion in agricultural purchases. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

Apparently I am in the Ezra Klein/John Stewart wing of the Democratic Party.

Despite my many disagreements with Ross Douthat, I agree with him that we should not conflate (bad) policy with authoritarianism. Doing so contributes to hysterical messaging, which turns off/away many voters that are needed to win. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/25/o...

Surprise, surprise, the DOGE hasn't figured out their objectives much beyond, cut back federal employees and roll back regulations. I'm all for methodical mapping of means and ends, but I can't stand it when they put recommendations before analysis.

“Of course, I want a Democratic majority in the House of Delegates in the state Senate, but that’s not to the exclusion of having people who want to productively and effectively work on behalf of their constituents.” www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
