Corn Bunting went extinct in Ireland in the mid 1990s with only a handful of records since then. I took this photo at Ballycotton in 1992. Incredibly I can only find one or two other photos of a Corn Bunting taken in Ireland, which is one reason why this photo is so bad.

Shocking loss of hay meadows in Ireland. One of the many reasons that grassland butterflies are disappearing so fast in Europe

Stunning shots of juvenile Pallid Harrier and even more stunning of male Northern Harrier at Ballyvergan, Cork. Scope views were excellent though. Marsh Harrier also #irishbirding

Swordbill o’clock, photos of recent trip to Colombia, saw over 50 species of #hummingbirds , merely a quarter of the Colombia list

On survey, heard a flap of wings, looked up and saw a male Hen Harrier nearly bumped into me coming around a corner. As ever no photos!

In Chaz’s bushes on Mizen, on Thursday played YBW call and got a response for a seconds from what was probably an Arctic Warbler. No until today when VC saw and heard it. Me v happy. #birding

A few shots of Steve Wing, CCBO warden, funeral the other day at Ringaskiddy Crematorium with Rock Pipits calling from within the old magazine complex…

Birding Mizen as ever can be a challenge but there can be some rewards
