“The Office of Personnel Management does not have any authority whatsoever under any statute in the history of the universe, to hire and fire employees within another agency,” said the judge. www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcn...

A bunch of former colleagues got fired today and to a person, they are some of the hardest working most professional folks I've ever worked with in my entire life. They weren't partisan, they worked for everybody & worked tirelessly for the country. We as a nation are poorer without their service.

NEW: A judge has ordered Trump administration officials — and at least one DOGE staffer — to sit for depositions in a lawsuit over the group's access to sensitive government systems. Judge Bates called DOGE's activities "opaque." w/ @joshgerstein www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

Sickening.

This man is barely even a formal government employee, let alone elected or Senate-confirmed. A total failure of the Constitutional order, just broadcast & normalized by every major media outlet.

Again, folks seem not to grasp how much this is a total collapse of the Constitutional order. A random private citizen is running the "Cabinet" meeting of POTUS & the Principal Officers of the Executive Departments, & going around unplugging large portions of the government. And we're all just 🤷‍♂️

IDR borrowers... Who are most likely to have at least $40k in debt, be legit middle earners, women, and maybe non-White (depends on the model) will be fucked for life. That's it. That's the message. ir.library.louisville.edu/jsfa/vol50/i...

I keep my champagne chilled for her.

House Rs just passed the budget resolution, the first step in their process to enact a bill that'd kick millions off Medicaid & cut SNAP down to just $1.60 per person per meal on avg while cutting taxes for the top 0.1% by $278k - all while increasing the debt 🧵on what's to come and WHERE TO FIGHT

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote. There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.

Look at this leader. Lift her up.

Barely, skin of their teeth, passing the budget resolution tonight is not the end. It just means this budget resolution goes to the next step -- the Senate has to vote on it and if they change the bill it goes back to the House to vote again. There's still a long battle and they're battered.

House Republicans just voted to gut Medicaid, which covers 1 in 5 Americans overall, including 41% of births and 63% of nursing home care. They also just voted to gut SNAP, on which 41 million food insecure Americans rely. This won’t just harm people. This will kill people. They own this.

The Republicans are gonna fundamentally change how Higher Education is funded and how people pay back student loans - or more precisely keeping new borrowers trapped in student loan debt. It's not getting enough attention with all the other shit. ticas.org/affordabilit...

A pair of Musk's DOGE bros are literally dictating who gets foreign aid -- including life-sustaining medical treatment -- in apparent defiance of what the Secretary of State has said should be U.S. policy Via @mattbaidc.bsky.social www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

Elon Musk and his 19-year-olds have now disrupted the approval of medical devices that save lives. Every member of Congress bears a responsibility to stop this right now.

Today in headlines that sound too cartoonishly evil to be true: Social Security Administration (SSA) acting commissioner Leland Dudek has axed the agency's Office of Civil Rights and Equal Opportunity. You know, the office that investigates harassment, discrimination, and medical/disability claims.

1. No one, I mean no one needs to listen to him. Never had to. Never should have. Stop now. 2. This shouldn’t be on the individual. Fed employees don’t answer to OPM. If agencies/depts want to respond, then do one response. “Everyone fulfilled their oath, mission, and duties, as they do everyday.”

“Daddy, make them listen to me” letter.

Government efficiency is when every federal agency has to send a daily emergency email to its workers telling them to ignore another daily email from a different department trying to fire them without knowing what their jobs are.

Here’s the full text of the email HHS sent, sent to me by multiple sources:

A president rapidly sundowning into full-blown dementia ambiguously handed power over the entire government to a delusional billionaire drug addict in a made-up illegal quasi-office and the Cabinet is split over whether their departments have to listen to his mad orders. It's day 34.

So far there seems to be a fractured response. DOD and parts of State and HHS say don't respond, at least for now. FBI says don't respond. But other agencies, including DHS, other parts of DOJ and HHS (overall) are telling their employees that they must respond before midnight tomorrow. Chaos.

This is exactly the same rationale as the war on remote work. “I wouldn’t do anything unless someone were watching over my shoulder, so the same must be true of these people.”

This isn’t drugs. This is him assuming other people don’t work because he doesn’t do that much work. Very common bad boss behavior. bsky.app/profile/rcma...

I was feeling a way and made a t-shirt about it. You can get it (or stickers, or whatever) here, if you have similar feelings: www.teepublic.com/user/libertine (there’s also an edition with white text for printing on dark shirts)

Too simple to even try and cover his tracks.

Every morning we wake up wondering if a Nazi who sweats cum and has the personality of a guy who was unanimously kicked out of his improv group has tried to destroy another government department while we were asleep.

Pisses me off that we’re stardust with the gift of conscious existence and having to spend our time on all this bullshit.

I was set to launch my book at the Carter Library next month. This week, we were told all events now need approval from the National Archives. The next day, my event was forced to relocate. A book about the working homeless. A book about civil rights. Apparently these topics are now off limits.

This is a shamefully racist movement that should be resisted by every person of good will. @brian-goldstone.bsky.social’s forthcoming book is incredible and it’s honestly the archive’s loss (and the nation’s). www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/a...

Even before Trump 2.0, the Social Security Administration’s staffing levels were at a 50-year low due to a decade of budget caps & cuts authored by GOP lawmakers. Further staff cuts and office closures can only make things worse for America's most vulnerable. New, @propublica.org

“We are hollowing out our government in a way that is going to hurt people and is going to get people killed,” said Amy Paris, who had been working to help reform the US organ transplantation network. “That is the scariest thing in the world.” New: @anniewaldman.bsky.social @deldeib.bsky.social

This is key to understanding the building outrage & backlash that extends way beyond the hurt of those fired. Firing people for no reason is brutal & loathsome but the even larger overall offense is wiping out all the fired people’s jobs with them, all the purposes & needs & value those jobs serve.

This is happening because Elon Musk tweeted to kill the December funding bill & all the bipartisan health policies Congress negotiated fell apart. Expanding telehealth brings DOWN costs. It makes health care MORE efficient, and it’s SO important for rural patients.
