Trayce Thompson of the Red Sox just hit a Grand Slam, 5th HR this spring , leads all of Baseball. That’s why we should’nt take spring stats very seriously, he’s a career journeyman, who is good depth at Worchester. He’s also the younger brother of Klay Thompson.

Freddie Freeman … good guy?!?! 😱😂

Logan Webb has to keep Matt Chapman humble 😂

Yaz and Chap combine for 2️⃣ homers and 5️⃣ RBI

Matt Chapman put on a defensive clinic this afternoon 😮‍💨

The Giants have been slow for years. Can two young speedsters kick them into higher gear?

Giants ranks this spring: Hitters: Batting average: 9th (.263) On-base percentage: 12th (.345) Slugging percentage: 7th (.452) OPS: 8th (.797) Home runs: 5th (20) Stolen bases: 16th (9) Pitchers: ERA: 3rd (3.63) WHIP: 2nd (1.16) Walks: 1st, by a mile (27) Strikeouts: 6th (128) Avg: 9th (.240)

I learned a lot writing this about feeding 200-plus people at spring training, and wow have times changed! In such a good way: How Giants have blended players’ palates and foods from home cities and countries with nutritional needs www.sfchronicle.com/sports/giant... via @sfchronicle

Giants win 7-3. An awesome game with good performances from key players. 4 home runs (Chapman x2, JH Lee, Yaz). 3 stolen bases (McCray x2, Bailey) 4 strong innings by Verlander Strong innings by Doval, Rogers, Hjelle, and Lucchesi And yet again, no errors. Excellent!

Watching Justin Verlander work is a thing of beauty 🥹

Something that stands out for the Giants this spring: they've been playing the disciplined, smart baseball that they preached but failed to deliver this time last year. Through 13 games they have 9 errors, but only 3 from players in contention for OD roster spots.

#SFGiants 3/6 roundup (W: 7-3) Jung Hoo Lee: 1-3, HR, 2 RBI Matt Chapman: 2-3, 2 HR, 2 RBI Mike Yastrzemski: 2-2, HR, 2 RBI Casey Schmitt: 1-1, 2B, RBI Justin Verlander: 4 IP, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO Camilo Doval: 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO Joey Lucchesi: 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO

Barry Bonds says he can still hit 100 MPH pitches 👀 "100? That's easy." (via @allthesmokeprod)

Jung Hoo Lee goes yard for his second #SpringTraining homer 💥

Matt Chapman brought his A-swing today 😲 He's crushed two homers already! #SpringTraining

Here in Scottsdale, Jung Hoo Lee and Matt Chapman homered back to back in the third inning, second of the game for Chapman. They're the Giants' 3-4 hitters in a lineup that could be the one we see on Opening Day.

Patrick Bailey steals second base. Here is a fun fact that you would not expect from a catcher: Bailey has 16 stolen bases in 18 opportunities as a pro. This includes going 5-5 in the majors.

Get ready for Spring Breakout, which will hopefully not be rained out like it was last year: www.mlb.com/giants/news/...

Breaking in our Bluesky account with the #SFGiants selections for Spring Breakout 2025:

Jung Hoo Lee is pookie 🥰

The #SFGiants Spring Breakout roster will feature some recent top picks (Bryce Eldridge, Carson Whisenhunt, James Tibbs III) and some younger prospects such as Jhonny Level, Diego Velasquez, Waler Martin, and Rayner Arias. www.mlb.com/news/spring-...

Harrison's fastball release point dropped down to 4.75' yesterday (from 4.91' last year). His horizontal release also changed from 1.87' to 2.37', indicating a shift in positioning towards the first base side of the rubber.

The Giants optioned Trevor McDonald and reassigned Carson Whisenhunt to Minor League camp.

Closest we’ve come to a possible Opening Day lineup for the Giants: March 6 - SF vs. CWS LaMonte Wade Jr. - 1B Willy Adames - SS Jung Hoo Lee - CF Matt Chapman - 3B Heliot Ramos - LF Patrick Bailey -C Wilmer Flores - DH Mike Yastrzemski - RF Tyler Fitzgerald - 2B RHP Justin Verlander

Giants Spring Training home run tracker: Willy Adames (1) 🫡 Solo 💣 off John Curtiss Giants lead 6-5 in the 4th.

Here are Logan Webb and Hayden Birdsong’s lines from their Minor League games today: Webb threw 3.1 innings, 2 hits, 1 run (0er), 0 walks, 6 strikeouts. He threw 53 pitches. Birdsong threw 2.1 innings, 3 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned runs, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts. He threw 44 pitches.

Casey Schmitt 112.4-mph, 409-ft home run szn

Harrison was throwing a second slider shape in that inning. It's... not what I was hoping to see. Way softer than the other variations of gyroish sliders he's tried to throw in the past.

Rough start for Kyle Harrison, who was tagged for five runs on five hits -- including a three-run shot to Gabriel Moreno -- over one-third of an inning.

Bob Melvin said 1B Bryce Eldridge (reassigned to Giants’ minor-league camp) and OF Marco Luciano (optioned) were sent down to get regular playing time. Wouldn’t put timetable on Eldridge reaching bigs, not rushing him. Both need work defensively learning relatively new positions.

Interesting bit in the Giants notes on MLBTR. Yankees offered Stroman for Rodgers, which we turned down to later do the deal with the Reds instead. I can’t make my mind up on what I think on this. Think Stroman was probably a good miss, but we did get very little for Rodger’s in the end.

Spencer Bivens went through a lot to get to the big leagues. He also did it while managing Type 1 diabetes: www.mlb.com/giants/news/...

a short post on some of the places I where ate in San Antonio and Arlington (TX) last weekend, including incredible arepas and baba ghanouj (not at the same place, that would be weird): bit.ly/3F17uzW

Being a ‘100-RBI guy’ matters to Giants shortstop Willy Adames — and to his new boss

Bryce Eldridge and Marco Luciano are among the first wave of cuts:

Cuts appear to be coming today, I just went to chat with Mason Black and he says he’s going to minor league camp. (That’s probably best for him, he has gotten little work in games, but I’m sure we will see him at some point this season.)

Happy news: Heliot Ramos is making his spring debut today. Starting in LF, batting 2nd.

New D’back Corbin Burnes, who pitched at St. Mary’s, was in action today and told me afterward: ‘We had some teams that were aggressive. The Giants weren’t one of them.’ And from his teammates, manager: how shocked they were to land the four time All Star: www.sfchronicle.com/sports/giant...
