Went straight from this bargaining meeting to watch out CHS girls win in the first round of bball regionals. These two things are connected! 🧡🖤

Today’s a good day to bargain a better contract for teachers. 👊🏼

this is an act of unspeakable violence. it benefits no one, it doesn’t move a number on a balance sheet. it only guarantees that every one of these incarcerated transgender people will be tortured.

The social-emotional lesson this week was called “fix your mistake”… we talked about cleaning up a mess etc but we also talked about repairing harm and changing behavior rather than just saying sorry. Then we baked some bread (to go with a literacy lesson)… this is how I’m staying sane in this world

Hour 907 of board games 🤪

Mandatory training videos that cannot be watched on double speed are my adhd nemesis.

Love a contested school board race!!

Me: did you play in the snow? Child: yes! Then I felt sick and had a runny nose so I had to go inside and eat some corn dogs.

Me watching to see who shovels their sidewalks this week…

My coworkers wrote a grant to develop of an adapted toy library! They modified toys to be switch operated so kids with disabilities can play with them at home. The beauty and thoughtfulness of our SPED team is unmatched! So proud of these coworkers.

One of my students who is an immigrant was absent yesterday along with the rest of their family. I was freaking out all day. When she rolled in this morning I started sobbing. In case you’re wondering what it’s like to be a teacher right now and live in fear for your kids.

Today is the 65th anniversary of the first of the Greensboro lunch counter sit-ins, one of the most significant events in American history. This short video is very much worth your time. Many archival photos & film clips. Interviews with some of the participants. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFQ3...

This. Resist. Stop complying in advance.

My heart is just breaking for the families and kids I know who are living in fear and seeing their identities literally erased. Room 9 will always be a safe place for ALL kids and families. Always.

Me watching people react to the zoning recommendations…

Me: what do you want for lunch? Kid 1: spaghetti Kid 2: basketti Kid 1: yea, that’s its middle name.

100th day of school writing ❤️

All geared up for the 100th day of school tomorrow: an entirely made up yet very serious holiday in kindergarten.

A lot of folks have great resources circulating—adding ours to the mix. Here's ACLU of Virginia's Know Your Rights / What To Do If Stopped By Police or ICE, translated in English, Spanish, French, Dari & Pashto, plus Va. immigration legal services orgs & contact info: www.acluva.org/en/know-your...

Kindergarten work about habitats is just the best.

Took my students to the Paramount for the third time this year, thanks to their amazing scholarships and community partners who paid for our whole grade to go ❤️ One (new to us) kid said “I’ve never seen this before in my LIFE!”

Walking to meet good friends at a restaurant owned by another friend. This feels like the goodness of small town life.

"Criminals will no longer be able to hide in America's schools & churches to avoid arrest," the statement continued. Let me clear this up for you: Criminals are not hiding in our schools. Children are attending schools & learning. Why on Earth would we want to make that harder or scarier for them?

Cville people- start emailing the school board and ask them what the plan is to protect our students from ICE.

I predict we go to school tomorrow on a 2 hour delay. The roads are ok but melting will refreshed tonight. Sidewalks are still a disaster.

The calendar change this year meant teachers got one less week of the summer… thanks Mother Nature for giving it back!
