So #VEVOR is a scam. Careful who you buy from, even if the dimensions were what I needed in a box… it wasn’t worth it. Multiple reviews seem to reflect the same issue with damaged goods showing up and customers being told to “just fix them”. @vevor.bsky.social

It usually either ball joints, rod ends, control arms, or wheel hubs. Sometimes a rare thing like broken steel bands inside a tire, but usually one of the 4. Hubs and a steering kit are easy. Ball joints aren’t bad with a press kit. Control arms can suck when the sleeve is seized inside the bushing.

It’s come to this on the MJ, welding the ball joints. The end of the axle’s ’C’ is tapered top to bottom now. So welded ball joints, or new front axle housing (I’m 4.88 geared) which means resetting up the gears.

Oh, and I bought a 1988 MJ Comanche 🤌, but 2001 XJ swapped. So the front clip, interior, wiring harness, engine, trans, and rear axle are all 2001. The front axle I’m not sure because it’s high pinion, and I understood that all ‘01’s had low pinion to save money while Jeep 🌀’d. 🤷‍♂️

On this episode of “How bad was the customer’s engine I pulled today?” Broken internals started flying around and busted through the block, so unfortunately they can’t even get the engine core charge back, extra $400-500. There’s bits of piston, bearings, bolts, even found some connecting rod.

Still 4.0 in ASE Auto Tech, about to do my final capstone class. At FEMI Offroad today I pulled one of the heaviest transmission + transfer case combinations in a Jeep together for the first time. Kinda scary, but invaluable experience. Thankfully I had a co-worker for advice along the way.
