I am already up to 8 relatives at RootsTech so far! That's pretty good for me. Hoping I will find some new relatives attending in person. www.familysearch.org/en/connect/9... #genealogy

Are you a journalist, genealogist or historian who has ever used records from the National Archives? It's time to step up and take some simple steps to preserve federal records. And save our nation's history. Please visit this website. And share widely. fundnara.com

My dear friend and colleague Robert Charles Anderson passed away yesterday. Bob was the finest scholar in the field of #Genealogy I had ever known. A library of knowledge is now gone, yet preserved in his scholarship with @americanancestors.bsky.social He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Henry Edward Levine became a citizen in 1916, despite not even knowing what port he entered the U.S. from or the name of the ship he came on. But yes, please lecture contemporary immigrants about how your ancestors did it "the right way."

An idea worth borrowing! #genealogy #history

Feb. 17, 1925: The freighter Canadian Navigator explodes and burns off Barbados, killing four laborers unloading cargo. The ship is cast adrift by the survivors and sinks.

Update your #Bluesky apps, people! 🙂 Some good things in this update.

#IrishGenealogy #FamilyHistory The website is www.cotyroneireland.com but it has great information on the whole of Ireland. Just added a map of Ireland from 1572.

Feb. 17, 1925: The first “airplane funeral” in the Western U.S. is conducted as the ashes of W.H. Pierce, a retired supervisor of the Shoshone National Forest, are scattered by Army planes over the Pacific at San Francisco. The urn with the ashes is handed to flier W.R. Sweeley.

OFFICIAL RELEASE DAY for "The Quest for Annie Moore of Ellis Island"! 😊🗽 (only took 22 years 😏) All shares appreciated!

Having older generations test is so important—especially for people who live or have ancestors from outside the U.S.! I love that the North of Ireland Family History Society is offering free FTDNA tests to those who qualify from the North of Ireland. Such a great opportunity! ☘️

The most important work that I do as a historian and educator is with history teachers around the country through professional development programs. I just learned that another workshop that I was scheduled to lead in April has been cancelled due to DEI. This is madness.

Keith Haring died of AIDS aged 31 on 16 Feb 1990. One of his last works, Unfinished Painting, was deliberately incomplete, reflecting the devastating, unquantifiable loss to the arts due to AIDS. #LGBTplusHistoryMonth

Today, we celebrate the birth of modern Lithuania. On 16 February 1918, Lithuania proclaimed the Act of Independence, restoring statehood that dates back to 1253. This act continues to define Lithuania – a free, democratic, united nation. 🇱🇹

16 February 1926 | A German Jewish girl Margot Frank, Anna's older sister, was born in Frankfurt. She and her family went into hiding in Amsterdam. After being arrested they were deported with their parents to #Auschwitz. The sisters perished in Bergen-Belsen.

Happy Caturday! This kitty just joined our collection, and we need your help naming it. Drop names in the replies. Next weekend, we'll post the best ideas to an Instagram Stories poll to choose a winner.

I loved this!

#OTD In 1940, those kind and friendly Soviets who did not "invade" Poland and only came to save the minorities who they later persecuted and deported began their deportations of Polish citizens to gulags and "work camps" deep into Russian territory. #History #Thread #WW2
