Huge, horrifying story.

SCOOP: The State Department's new reorganization plan includes the opening of an "Office for Remigration," a term popularized by far right extremists and neo-Nazis in Europe. The office will coordinate directly with DHS "to advance the President’s immigration agenda." My report:

🐻 Don’t make Smokey mop up after your weekend fun this summer. Smokey is inspired by a real bear, hurt bad by a real fire. Be kind to Smokey and his friends this summer. Make sure your campfires are out cold by drenching with plenty of water.

Everybody disliked school closures. That’s why the narrative that they were somehow worse than the alternative has caught on. It sucked! What if things didn’t have to have sucked? Sounds great, right? Please share @wendyorent.bsky.social’s piece with anyone who’s fallen for that revisionist history.

Anchorage, Alaska: Show up for immigrants. These people aren’t criminals, they are your neighbors, they are families, and they are breaking up families. Remember families belong together.

Heard this happened yesterday as well. It's completely unacceptable. By law, the courts are open to the public and the media.

Federal judges are afraid that ruling against Trump will put them in physical danger

Seeing as Emil Bove personally fired me from DOJ in retaliation for prosecuting January 6 rioters, I don’t think he should be confirmed to a lifetime seat as a federal judge. But that’s just me.

The new military "defense areas" policy at the border "effectively sidesteps the Posse Comitatus Act, …a firewall against the U.S. military morphing into a force for internal security or suppression of Americans," writes the deputy chief of staff to former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

There's a stunning provision tucked into the budget bill that would limit courts' ability to enforce contempt orders, and therefore to uphold the rule of law. This deserves real alarm. If the Senate values the separation of powers, it must remove the provision.

As ICE continues arrests throughout the nation at immigration courts, the backlash is going to continue to grow and we're going to see a lot more arrests of protesters and others who are coming out to bear witness to these cruel acts.
