It'd be interesting to have voter ballot initiatives restricted only to electoral matters, like changing term lengths/limits, voting dates/methods, and boundaries + recalling officials -- but to not allow initiatives on other issues, like taxes or social policy. Does anywhere do something like this?

there is no abundance without immigrants

PARIS: In the last 20 years, 44ha of Paris car parking has been transformed, making room for wider sidewalks, bikes & buses (15ha), bike racks, EV spots, accessible space, & 2.2K new patios/terraces for outdoor dining. 90% of Paris trips are via walking, biking & transit. This Budget Act makes investments in affordable housing and transit operations. But thanks to the leadership of Governor Newsom, Senator Wiener, and Assemblymember Wicks it also contains transformative housing policy we have championed for decades. This is a generational moment. An inflection point.

Hey listen up, Americans. This is Naheed Nenshi. He's an Ismaili Muslim. He's also the 3-time mayor of the city of Calgary, awarded awarded 2014 World Mayor Prize, and now the official Leader of the Opposition in Alberta. He's widely loved and respected. He's brown. He's Muslim. He's awesome

NYC Comptroller Brad Lander: "I don't think the line for the [Democratic] party right now is between progressives and moderates; I think it's between fighters and folders."

It’s not “skepticism.” It’s opposition. His agenda is to end vaccines.

no amount of free money is going to get people to have children in a stagnant society of rampant corruption and dwindling opportunity

Lots of focus on the imbalance between what blue states and cities send red states in terms of their tax dollars, but don't lose focus on the dehumanizing language comparing people to vermin, something history has seen before. We're in a bad place as a nation.

“We’re the good guys,” I tell myself as a 6-year-old leukemia patient pees his pants in fear. I adjust my black mask and sunglasses in the mirror, making sure to hide my identity. “I am not evil,” I whisper.

We are already 66% leased, and we haven't finished construction yet! There is definitely a market for stacked flats! #spokanesix #manitosix

Oregon's legislature just passed HB 2138, removing remaining barriers to starter homes: - up to 4 homes on all urban lots, attached or detached in any combo - up to 6 homes with accessibility or affordability - simpler lot splits - strikes bans on such housing out of pre-2019 HOA rules

We're so close to fixing key drivers of California's housing crisis: ✅️ SB 79 would legalize apartments near transit. ✅️ AB 130 would end frivolous litigation against infill. ✅️ AB 253 + AB 1308 would prevent permitting/inspection delays. ➡️ Here's how you can help.

When Trump took office in January, there were 10.3 immigrants with criminal convictions arrested and detained by ICE for every one with no record. Now, there are 1.2 criminals detained for every immigrant with no record. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

BIG NEWS! The major environmental organization @nrdc.org has come out in support of SB 79, our bill that will make it easier to build homes near transit! cayimby.org/wp-content/u...

Underrated element of YIMBY success is that when people move in our direction we congratulate and thank them instead of huffing about how we were there first.

"While in our work we are consistently amazed at the lengths cities will go to in frustrating housing projects, the City of Los Angeles is especially prodigious and creative in their efforts."

This is a travesty & a nightmare. The US was a founder of @gavi.org. It lowers global vaccine costs, has vaccinated 1B children, & averted 19M deaths. This pull out will cost 100s of thousands of children's lives a year - and RFK Jr will be personally responsible. www.politico.com/news/2025/06...

A lie THIS obvious isn’t an attempt to fool anyone; it’s just a pure expression of contempt.

But really though

There is a very good chance that the man who said all of the below (Zohran Mamdani) is going to become the Democratic nominee for Mayor of New York City, and I am so incredibly here for it

Winner for the night

Why'd they go with "abundance" when "domain expansion" was right there for the taking🤞

Public bathroom spotted at Highland Park station along the Metro A Line 👍🏻

Interesting chart from an article in the Journal of Housing Econ showing the per-unit median price change for single-family house redevelopments in Seattle. 1-for-1 replacements nearly doubled the price, 1-to-4 units retained previous price, and 1-to-9+ units cut prices in half.

Meanwhile, back at home: Trump's Big Beautiful Bill will make the poor poorer and the rich richer. Regressivity is even worse if you layer on Trump's tariffs. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...

You Gov numbers: "Only 16% of Americans think the U.S. military should get involved in the conflict between Israel and Iran; 60% say it should not and 24% are not sure" It's going to change quickly, but let's at least remember where we started. today.yougov.com/politics/art...

the political lesson everyone should take from Iraq is that you will regret being in favor of this sooner or later and the earlier you were against it the better off you’ll be ignore the media frenzy and stake your position now, it’s the right thing to do and it’s the ambitious thing to do too

Tariffs. Stock market down. Medicaid slashed Secret police throwing anyone who looks Latino in unmarked vans. National guard and marines deployed in LA. No end to the wars in Gaza or Ukraine Bombing Iran This is the worst first six months of any presidential term in my lifetime.

If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people: 1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money 3) We won’t need a lot of troops 4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq 5) We’ll find WMDs 6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators 7) It will be easy 8) It won’t take long All lies.

It’s a good thing Congress isn’t alive to see this

A Dem lawmaker and her husband were killed by a guy for their political views and it’s already out of the news.

This is not about the merits of Iran’s nuclear program. No president has the authority to bomb another country that does not pose an imminent threat to the US without the approval of Congress. This is an unambiguous impeachable offense.

Close friend just had final building permit sign off on a completed multifamily project in East Bay get delayed b/c inspector said the common area furniture wasn't located where shown on the building plans. *slowly closes laptop to contemplate my existence *. @markasaurus.bsky.social
