All that stuff I wanted to get done today? Ha! I didn't go anywhere, but I also did no writing. I did research e-commerce platforms for direct book sales, plus I washed a lot of dishes and made an Italian sausage spaghetti sauce that will result in a lot of leftovers for later meals.

Since more people are avoiding Amazon, I've been exploring some options to do direct sales of my books. And then I started wondering if it would be worthwhile to do something like Patreon, but I don't know what I'd put on it. I don't really have time to write a lot of extra stuff for members.

I need to decide what to do today. There's a museum program I was thinking of going to, but if I'm being honest, I'm not that interested in it. I know going out would be good for my mental health, and kid upstairs seems to be having A Day (big meltdown right now), but I also want to write.

Tonight's movie was Wonka, and it was so delightful that my cheeks hurt from smiling all the way through. It really feels like something Dahl might have written, and the cast all seemed to be having a great time. They also did a good job of doing the ambiguous place/time from the original movie.

Today on the blog, I had some thoughts on that discourse about writing villains and why audiences love them. shannaswendson.com/heroes-and-v...

I've finished season one in my rewatch of Clone Wars. I think this puts us past the "stop trying to make Jar Jar happen" phase. I find that I have a lot more tolerance for young Ahsoka after "meeting" the older live-action version, but I still question giving Anakin an apprentice.

I'm still trying to figure out how to end this book, and my brain isn't working. This may end up being a day for distracting my brain so it can work in the background and emerge later with a brilliant solution. In the meantime, I've got dough rising for a pan pizza.

I just had one of those writing goosebump moments when I realized that all of my viewpoint characters in this book are essentially seeking the same thing (from an internal desire perspective), just going about it in different ways. I guess this book does have a theme!

Joy for the day: I found my missing favorite spatula, the one that's shaped to get the last bit of stuff out of jars. I've looked where it should be and where it might be and was starting to think I accidentally threw it away, then just now spotted it in a very random place. It's been weeks.

I have been so excited since I found out this would be announced today! RIP any ability for me to concentrate: www.apple.com/tv-pr/news/2...

My ratty sweater I wear around the house to stay warm is in the wash, and I feel like a little kid waiting for my blankie to finish washing, only it's about warmth, not security. It's hard to keep my arms warm while typing without it.

Yes, this! You could even equate Luke's position, just hiding out, to certain leaders now. I don't even feel like the movie "betrays" Luke. The biggest idealists tend to become the worst cynics. When their ideals are shattered, they lose all faith. I could see that happening to Luke.

The kid upstairs got the zoomies at 3 a.m. and ran, giggling, up and down the apartment, with some jumping up and down right above where my bed is, for added fun. I may be a wee bit crabby today. And school is out again today.

It snowed about 2 inches today, and I made lentil soup and crusty French bread for dinner. Plus, I figured out a way for my hero to survive a confrontation with an enemy who's more magically powerful than he is (and in a way that's Thematic), so I may have finally fixed the ending of this book.

I just got more than 30 e-mails from @armadillocon.bsky.social, asking if I want to stay on their mailing list. Either your mail sender is barfing or you're really desperate. It's a bit far for me to commute now. But that reminds me that I need to look into cons around here to see if they'd want me.

It's #BookQW and our word this week is "night." Just one night is all Elwyn's willing to commit to staying at the beginning of my cozy cottagecore fantasy Tea and Empathy. (Book 3 in the series is coming soon) shannaswendson.com/writing/tea-...

The recent SNL 50th anniversary special reminded me of something in my life that shows how pervasive their catchphrases could be. The show started while I was in elementary school, but I didn't know about it until I was in high school. In 4th grade, we had a field trip to a high school to see a play

I was so proud of myself for remembering to take my list with me to the grocery store, then got there and realized that I'd grabbed the list for a previous shopping trip that I'd forgotten and left in my notebook -- and yet I managed to get everything I'd put on my list. I deserve chocolate.

Here's the TV story on our local protest. The national news didn't show any of the protests, other than interviewing fired federal employees for that story while they were at protests. Not a peep in the WaPo. www.whsv.com/2025/02/17/p...

Our protest made the local evening news. I spotted my back. My bright blue knitted beanie stood out on camera. They haven't posted the story on the website yet. Now we'll see if the national news covers the DC protest.

Our little town had a good turnout. That one idiot with the flag on the back of his car kept driving around the block. I hope it cost him a lot of gas money.
