My dad died 19 years ago today. Today I'll recite the Memorial Prayer II in his honor. I wanted to share this part: For a short time, you possessed form, & now those four elements have scattered. Suddenly, you return to boundlessness. How many years have you played in the ocean of dreams? #buddhism

“You call this breakfast?” 😠 #birds #birder #backyardbirder #nuthatch #newengland

“Don’t mind us. We can serve ourselves.” 😆 So many hungry mourning #doves this morning. #birds #birdwatcher #backyardbirder #photography #nature

A piece I showed in last year’s group art show at the local bookstore. #blueskyartshow #monochrome #blackandwhite #nature

A single word can be a lie. For example, journalists are still calling what Musk and his child army have been doing an operation in pursuit of government efficiency.... www.meditationsinanemergency.com/to-use-their...

Tonight, the Snow Moon rises. 🌕❄️ Named for February’s deep snows, this full moon was also called the Storm Moon or Ice Moon in Old English, reflecting winter’s cold grip. Look below its glow tonight, and you may spot Regulus...one of the brightest stars in the sky. Moonrise: 17:06*

I think I've found a way to articulate what bothers me about the trajectory of the modern tech industry (and to some extent... society). We are on this Earth to provide for each other. That's the "mission" of humanity as I see it. This is incompatible with what the tech industry seeks to do.

I have this photo on display in a local bookstore as part of an exhibit themed black and white. A color photo, but #snow changes everything to black and white. #nature #trees #photography

(🫣looks away from the news feed) At least there are the #birds. A dark-eyed junco coming in for a landing. A Carolina wren is already eating. #birdwatcher #backyardbirder #photography #nature #newengland

I was surprised to see an American #Robin at the feeder this weekend with the regular visitors, like the downy #woodpecker. I thought they migrated, but I learned some stick around and take food wherever they can find it. They are so #beautiful. #birds #birder #backyardbirder #nature #photography

Snowy morning view: dark-eyed junco striking a pose. #birds #backyardbirder #photography #nature #newengland

I found this #octopus today and I don’t know how I’ve lived without it. #shoplocal #glassart #newengland

A different take for the #birds channel today! My first effort at a #crane in my #art class. Much practice still needed but I like him. 🥰 #birder

“I’m going in.” 🐦 Fresh food in the feeder means an absolute influx of mourning #doves. #birds #birdwatcher #backyardbirder #photography #nature

Morning view: a downy #woodpecker stopped by for a bite of breakfast. #birds #backyardbirder #nature #photography #newengland

Crowd favorite: Big Red the red-bellied #woodpecker. #birds #birdwatcher #backyardbirder

Taking a reprieve from news with this #photo I took of a beautiful #cardinal in the snow. #birds #birdwatching #nature #backyardbirder #photography

Every spring, an Eastern Phoebe family returns to a nest on our porch that was here before we moved in. They lay eggs, hatch chicks and then leave us. After spending the spring watching them come and go and seeing the baby #birds grow, we feel like empty nesters when they leave. #Birdwatching

Happy Black History Month, and yeah, we're still doing that.

A gay guy, a Black man, and a woman walk into a flight deck— that’s not the beginning of a joke, but just a regular day at work! There was so much DEI on this plane that we could hardly get in the air. Luckily my limp wrists were able to wrestle the heavy jet back to the ground 💅🏼

A Cooper's #Hawk, photographed in my backyard 16 years ago! I feel like #bird watching is something I’ve only recently started doing with intention, but my #photo #archives say differently! #birder #backyardbirder #photography #nature

Another one from the archives. 23 years ago. It was a lot of fun working as a newspaper #photojournalist in S. Florida. I’m grateful for the experience. #photography #skies #silhouettes

Another image from the archive! Taken 17 years ago, when I lived in S. Florida. I named the file “Hitchcockian.” Very original, you see? #Birds #birdwatcher #photography #nature #skies

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...

Going way into the archives for today’s #bird post. A #starling I photographed 13 years ago in my backyard. Photo found while rediscovering old files on a recently located external hard drive. #birder #backyardbirder #photography

The most proactive thing any of us can do right now is spend as little as possible. If you must spend money then at least DO NOT do it at Amazon, Target, Walmart, Publix, whole Foods, Hobby Lobby or McDonalds. Shop local if available or with (more) ethical companies instead. Don’t support a-holes.

Easily amused around here. #cats #catsofbluesky #shadowpuppets #critters

When it’s all said and done, the only thing that really matters is how you treated the animals.

Self-care: a new, weekly #art class. Three hours with no phone, music, news, internet. Just sitting silently with six others, trying to convey the sun, clouds, water, mountains. Struggling with boats in case you can’t tell from this #painting. 😆 #hobbies #watercolor

Happy Lunar New Year, Wellesley! 🐍 Art by Grace Ming '18 💙
