Seed awakens to find self buried in cold, dark, wet earth. Where humans put corpses, it pushes in vague direction w/ subtle persistent strength, past stone, asphalt, thru snow towards light never seen, yet believed in its deepest being. The old tree Buffeted by wind & rain Roots unable to grasp earth Hollowed out by a century of burrowing Leaves long left Slumped rather than toppled Making no great noise in its expiration.
