I was indescribably fortunate enough to see the Dolls live in MCR a month after this was filmed. They were astonishing, incredibly good sleazy fun. David Johansen will be one of the coolest people I've ever seen, a real presence who absolutely oozed charisma. You couldn't take your eyes off him.

Buy as many of these wonderful books as you can. Every one is life-altering.

"You're not my surreal Dad!"

The Lizard King? Come f**king on, HaHa-Edwyn

I'm a Riggs I'm a Glover I'm a Getz I'm a Murtaugh I'm Joe Pesci I'm Jet Li I'm Lethal Weapon 3

Into the pub after a beast of a working week and as soon as I sit down with a pint Pacific State by 808 State comes on the jukebox. Everything is going to be (briefly) alright.

Need to hear something positive coming out of America? Me too, so I've done a wee interview with Steve and Dave from 90s power poppers Gigolo Aunts. Their answers are funny, illuminating and wise. There is a really sad story about being beaten to the punch by possibly the world's worst band.

Actually crying lmaoo

A few words on the (literally) breathtaking short film Good For the Soul by Dean Chalkley. open.substack.com/pub/shaunpau...

Dean Chalkley’s Good For The Soul - which premiers today on @Nowness celebrates the joy of dancing to northern soul. The soundtrack is available to preorder now on 7" ✊

Booked tickets to go see a play about a pub in Shropshire called The Nags Head that has a haunted painting. I can never again claim theatre never covers my interests. May demand my money back if Jen doesn't come on stage and demand we shush 10 minutes before the end.

Anna Karina Le petit soldat Godard 1963

Mick Lynch "Nigel Farage is a racist." RP if Mick is right.

I disliked Michael Gove before. But then he said this... Get him in the Hague.

If Diana Rigg had a quid for every Indie gig or club featuring her as Emma Pell during the 80's, I reckon she would have around £86.00.

Yeah but is the Shining a new years eve film?

At the self scan at WH Smiths. Me: *scans biro* Till-'How about a copy of Mien Kampf with 10% off?' Me-'Nah you're alright' Till-'What about 10p off the Daily Mail and a bar of chocolate?' Me-'No thanks' Till-'batteries?'

An early Xmas present for Soulies/Cinema(ies?) A stellar line up of guests from the demure Lisa Stansfield to the calm of Steve Coogan via the living legend that is Keb Darge. I'm going to get some mince pies and bang this in one go. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISs7...

It's absolutely fucking outrageous humans don't hibernate like other animals. We could be in a duvet igloo eating Pringles and watching Aly McBeal or something until spring. But oh no let's all troop off to work while it's still dark and freezing outside like the saps we are. Absolute joke specie.

Instead of Fake Taxi we should Counterfeit Cab, where black cabs pick up people who really really need the lift and at the end when they go to be it'll be like 'nah mate its coo matel I'm a counterfeit Cab'

Tony Hart and Morph on the set of Hart Beat (1984)

I wrote this for the @telegraphnews.bsky.social

As well as being a formidably brilliant broadcaster, @aasmahmir.bsky.social is a class act in every way.

Massive away win for the little fella.

Fun for all the family!!!

Some pretty serious poetry going down at the Minder Appreciation Society.

A genuinely chilling horror story from Shrewsbury open.substack.com/pub/shaunpau...

On the train next to some Birmingham City fans drinking Stella, Stone Island on display. Topics of conversation? How nice Shrewsbury is to visit and how high the pouf is compared to the sofa.

Here's something I wrote about Doves. "Doves Shaun? But aren't they a bit Adidas Gazelle and Reni hat?" Well yes but no, not really. They are so much more important than that.

First thing I thought was 'I bet Kurt Cobains Cardigan isn't on there' and boom! there it is side one track one. Second thing I did was order it, this is a SUPER limited run of I guess not a best of of, but a great round up of the very early marital of one of indiepops (one word) true greats.

BLTQIA+

Her favourite is The Light User Syndrome apparently.

Essential reading this. Mayflies is one of my favourite books and Caledonian Road is a book of the year and *whispers* Andrew was involved in a VERY good indie single. I'd be stunned if the Start and Garter don't do a 'Born with a quiff' t-shirt.

Panic on the streets of Swindon

For those who don't know this story, which I first shared six years ago today.... This one time I got my days wrong at work and ended up alone in a room with my boss and the President of Ireland while I was on ketamine. 🧵

Good to see the mighty Hüsker Dü are not forgotten at Morecambe v Port Vale ✊🏽
